When I just did my floor the haze would not come off. I mixed vinegar and water in a bucket and wiped it down and it worked. Then I went over it with just a plain water rinse.

DO NOT seal first!! Very important consideration, though-- what's your countertop material? Also, is your tile ceramic or stone?

Bill, it's ceramic tile on the wall and the counter top is cheapo but new laminate. I'll hold off sealing until I know for sure. I checked a bottle of haze remover at Home Depot and it said to wait until grout had cured for 10 days before using but it didn't say anything about if the grout should be sealed first. 10 days seems like a long time to wait.

I'm telling you right now the grout should NOT be sealed first. Also, I don't know if you got the non-acidic haze remover, or the sulfamic acid crystals. If you got the sulfamic acid, return it and get the nonacidic haze remover. It's better for the tile, better for the grout, and not as dangerous to use, either to you or surrounding finishes.

I agree with the 10 day comment, but I'll defer to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Thanks again Bill, I won't seal the grout. I haven't bought the haze remover yet. I'll avoid the sulfamic acid. I guess the reason I'm curious is, well, if the "haze-remover" removes the haze which is essentially grout stuck to the tile what will the haze remover do to the grout that is set between my tiles??

Believe it or not, It won't bother it. What the haze remover attacks is the lime that's been brought to the surface during the washing process, and that's essentially what's on the face of the tile. It won't hurt the bulk of the grout.

Okay, so I've tried a couple of acidic products from Home Depot and I still got grout in my tiles. I can now safely say that it is not haze but grout stuck in the pits of the tile. The tile is not flat and smooth but has a sort of pitted-like surface and the grout is stuck in the pits. The two products I tried were a glycolic acid product and a sulfamic acid product both with no luck. Seems the only thing that works is to pick the grout out with a sharp object but that is going to take be months to remove it from all the tile. Does anyone know of other products or options here? Any help is much appreciated.

If your tiles aren't prone to scratching, try a toothbrush and/or dense wire brush along with the haze remover.

Thanks paulines. Tried the toothbrush thing too. I think I've accepted the fact that there is not going to be an easy way. I'm now using a metal dental pick to pick out the grout that is stuck in the pits and if there are minute specks left I'm using vinegar undiluted and a nylon bristle brush. This seems to do the trick but it's going to take awhile. Oh well, live and learn.

What you're doing right now is about the best SAFE way to do it. You can try using a dremel tool instead of the dental pic, but you have to be careful not to mar the glaze of the tile.
