Seeking BS help with walnut countertops

Hoping I can get a few suggestions on a BS to go with dark black walnut countertops??

I'm getting all new cabinets made, SW Dover White (b/c that's whats carried throughout trim already), floor is oak stained medium walnut, wall color TBD, kitchen has a lot of light. Adjoining heath room has large block limestone fireplace. House is your typical traditional suburban.

Glass feels too modern, tumbled travertine too ho-hum. Marbles I've seen in local shop are too gray or bland, and since I don't have any color movement going on with the countertops (besides the natural movement of the wood grain...).... Any opinions to help me get thinking and looking?

I just like the idea of a natural material with your limestone and wood (can't wait to see that ... love walnut!) over a ceramic tile.

Why not a ceramic with a light wash of color? Jeffrey Court has some lovely tiles. There are also fabulous tiles at Walker Zanger or Mission Tile West.
With the white cabs and wood counter, you can do almost anything.

Breezy, that kitchen of yours was key to the planning of my kitchen reno, although I did not use wood for my countertop. NOW , I am planning a reno for another small kitchen. Have been SO tempted to use black walnut butcher block, edge grain. Again your kitchen is an inspiration. I am reluctant to use along the sink run, due to the obvious issues of a wet surface and long term wear and maintenance issues. How does your osmo finish perform with water, white rings from glasses left on the counter? And the touch up you mention, is it akin to the oiling of a bb counter that has an oil finish? How frequently do you refresh the surface? The fact that you had runnels placed in the counter is encouraging, as I associate those with use as a drain board, obviously a very wet condition. Which osmo polyx product did you use? Natural/clear, I assume......

Oooh that mini mesh is pretty. Calacatta is too white and grey for the creme and warm tones in my kitchen, but I've found a similar marble blend mini mesh that I think I'll check out. Thanks! The countertops are walnut, not rustic. They have about 4 coats of Waterlox and a waterlox orig/satin mix, and so far are completely impervious to stain (I'm not exactly clean). My husband dropped a screwdriver while hanging the pendants and nicked the counter, and I was able to rub a bit with sand paper and touch up waterlox...you can't tell a difference in any light. I think the key will probably be keeping up with the reapplication of waterlox BEFORE the original coat wears and damage starts to occur. As easy as applying the first coats were, this doesn't scare me. I'm sold on the stuff...wish I had it on my floors as the waterborne Minwax we used was a poor choice with a dog and a toddler.

So, the tan tiles did NOT work once the granite was installed. There is a bit of pink in the Bianco antico and the "ivory" tiles took on a very pink cast when they were next to the full granite. I went with an off white subway tile instead and love it. Now I'm having issues with the wall colour, I normally hum and haw over paint forever with samples folate red all over the wall but I had guests come sooner than expected and I really didn't want the walls looking all splotchy and shredded. So, I went and picked out a nice light griege and slapped it on. Problem is....it looks like a greyed lavender. And very single person I have asked says that it looks lavender. So, now my counters look lavender. Ugh! I've got all my samples now but because of that stupid mistake, I'm second guessing myself. Does anyone have suggestion for wall colour? Just for reference, my kitchen is open to my hallway and you can see my livingroom from it. It is painted a soft aqua (grey green blue), which I really don't care for next to the lavender! It looks like a pastel house now. And I have 5 boys. I would rally like a. Neutral colour that would compliment the soft aqua, which is why I was leaning towards taupe or griege. I need it to be light though.

OMG thank you! Great ideas...headed over to the Mission and WZ tile websites now! Carrie's kitchen is beautiful and I'm so happy to see other kitchens with wood around the perimeter...I haven't found a lot out there for inspiration...thank you for posting this!!!

There's another kitchen that I really love with wood counters. Sorry, it doesn't have a tile backsplash either, but since you mentioned you hadn't seen many inspiration photos with wood counters, I thought I'd post it.
