Melamine is used for many many kitchen interiors because it's very easy to keep clean and is a night light reflective sruface to be able to find your stuff. Most cabinet interiors don't match the exterior except for the edge banding of the shelving at most. Melamine is VERY difficult to paint, and paint would be a far worse surface to store your goods on than the melamine. You would need to line it so as not to "drag" and leave marks. I'd leave things alone personally. You've got the best of both worlds now.

Aura is good paint, and your painters are obviously familiar with it to have quoted you a job in it. I'd be very hesitant to use a paint that's twice as expensive that your painters haven't used before. While professionals are "professional", new products do have a learning curve, and having your kitchen be their lab experiment wouldn't be a good idea. It'd also be quite a bit more costly because of the added materials expense, as well as the added labor to be working with more expensive materials. It might almost double your quote. The only way to know the answer to that question would be to ask your painters. If they've already purchased the paint, I'm sure they'd expect reimbursement for that as well as the additional cost of the paint and additional labor markup, so if you do want to change, hurry up and ask them about it so they can maybe do some testing with the paint you want before they get to your house.

Well my husband has no patience and I haven't made it to the shop... so the paint I had already selected was applied to the trim SW Extra White. The paint is wet and shiny at the moment and the window is covered in plastic, so the color is not true yet. The picture is of the garage door, which is steel, but the color of the door was a match between this door and the front door, which are very similar in color. Also I will need to tell them to complete the frame in white. The second picture of the trim in the dining room which has a little more light coming through. My question is regarding the front door (3rd picture). At first I was going to paint the trim on this one, but a couple of weeks ago changed to staining the door and letting the base trim remain white but stop at the door. So the question: If I stain the trim what do I do with the window above. It is currently primed - purchased that way. Paint it the stain color or paint it white? I welcome your comments. FRONT DOOR BELOW: The door to the left is an office which will match the front door (trim color). These two doors are not in view of any of the other doors. The office has dark stained wood halfway up the wall and the door is see through.

forget staining them. as mentioned above, it's actually more work than painting. you have to get them down to raw wood again before applying a new stain. (if you want it to look good) If you were thinking about doing a darker stain, you could do what they've done here to resemble a dark stain. General Finishes Dark Chocolate paint, and 2 coats of their clear coat. (you still have to sand and prime prior to painting) this is from a poster here on Houzz who shared this. right now, your backsplash, tile flooring and countertop are at odds. It's very busy with those 3, and all the other stuff you have going on in there. you have a lot of knick-knacks, plaids, stripes, tile pattern on the floor, granite movement, mosaic tile movement, etc. they really compete with one another. I'd remove the backsplash and that 4" granite piece up the back. Remove everything on top of the cabinets. Pare down half of what you have everywhere else. Paint your cabinets and get new hardware. I'd paint out the trim and baseboards to white, but that's me. on these first few pics, notice how these owners dealt w/the small space above the cabinets by have boxes built to fill in above it. If you're painting, this is easily done. Before/After. paint color is Shoji White with glaze, and Annonymous on the island the one above, and this one, show how removing old tile and the 4" granite piece up the back, make a big difference in look. you could always do a nicer crown molding on the tops of your cabs. look how nice it looks w/the white cabinets, darker wall color, and no stuff collecting dust on top! It's a ton of work to do and cost is going to reflect that. If someone gives you an estimate of 2-3k to do yours, don't fall for it.
