How much room should I leave for the Dining Room?

Hello,

We're in the process of laying out our kitchen in our newly bought first home. We've torn out the very cramped old kitchen as well as the wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room. We now have a clear open space of 20' x 13.3' to work with. Planning on putting a U-Shaped kitchen in and cheating a bit into the dining area. There will be an open peninsula counter between the two areas. Just wondering how far we can go into the dining area without totally destroying the functionality of the room.

There's just two of us (at the moment) and we plan on spending most of the time along the kitchen counter (with some stools) but would like to be able to squeeze in a bigger sitdown meal for special occasions.

Thanks for any input.
