Or, you could do glass in the top section of a tall door?

In our kitchen, our uppers are 48", but I had an extra rail added about 12" down to divide the length and emulate the look of stacked cabs. This allows me, though, to open the door at the bottom and see what's in the cabinet all the way up. I can also adjust the shelving within the space however best suits the contents.

I have seen doors similarly done with glass or divided glass instead of the panel in the top section.

I love the idea of glass on top; especially when they are lit. Rhome's suggestion as an alternative to accomplish that is once again creative and wise.

I have stacked uppers and love the look of it. We have just about 9' ceilings. From the bottom of the cabinet to the ceiling is 52". The door (not including frame) on the lower is 28" and the upper door is 12" - the rest is taken up by the frame and molding. Here is a pic (taken before kitchen was fully done):

here is a pic of Woodmode cabinets with stacked uppers and with glass doors and lighting in the upper cabinets. I have to say that I did not like the light seeping out around the edges of those upper doors (the issue is not apparent from the photo I am posting). Perhaps this is better pulled off with full overlay cabinets vs. inset?? or maybe this just bothers me??

I love the look of stacked uppers but had to ditch them because of the cost. A whole other box added a lot to the price so I ended up with 48" wall cabs, which feels crazy high to me, but I need the storage space. So if they're within your budget, I'd go for it!

As an aside, rhome410, I think those are the pulls I'm going to get. I searched far and wide and finally found them in brushed chrome. I really love them. I also have Shaker doors so it was nice to see how good yours look.

Stacked with glass is a very nice look for displaying nice pieces. I question how useful stacked solid doors would be - better for concealing the contents but will you remember what's in them and how easy will it be to get at whatever it is if you remember that it's there (I love the look of them though). I think rhome410's approach may be more practical.

As someone working on a kitchen with soffets I am jealous of all the height but at the same time my budget loved, loved, loved those soffets - they saved us a bundle.

I like the numbers of your cabinets but I may have to go bigger hence the height of the ceiling.
I am going creamy ivory brown on the finish and I hope to tint the glass.

As soon as the cabiet people can get the door sizes straight to route them out, LOL, I'll have the upper glass. My reasoning was because I will never be able to utilize the cabinets that are that high up and I don't need the extra storage. So I'm taking the opportunity to showcase some things and making the uppers a decorating element.

I also have 12 foot ceilings. We did stacked, with glass uppers, with lights in them.

We considered a tall door with glass in the top, but I felt that it was not the same look. I also felt the very tall door was a little awkward.

LOVE my stacked uppers. They add a touch of elegance and make my 9 ft ceilings seem higher. They each have a dimmable recessed puck light in them.
