Range at the end of a cabinet run?
Comments (15)You might have a code issue with that window...you see how ours is offset by just a few inches from the window? Our original plan was range to the wall and the window (which would give us another warming cabinet). But code didn't allow it. If it is allowed, think carefully about window treatments. You'd want to be keeping them inset in the frame and really on the top in general but if you need shade, think of the materials as they'll be in the splash zone of a busy cook (ours are bamboo with a fire retardent spray on them specially ordered, and we're further away than you will be). You aren't really at the end of a run if you are going to do the baking center idea. I'd seriously consider maybe moving that or making it a tiny bit smaller (or the cabinet next to it) so you can keep the 36" range...but again, check the codes on the window issue before you get all fired up about the plan! If you move the baking center down a foot, leave all else as is, it would allow you the ability to put a cabinet above the 1' counter on that side of the range and a small spice pull out type cabinet, which fixes all of your issues :)...See MoreWhat to do with end of run of cabinets?
Comments (18)Hi all, thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. Westsider40 - the cabinet maker is Henrybuilt. They are based in Seattle with two showrooms, one in Seattle and one in NYC. We considered the usual passel of European brands like Scavolini, Pedini, Siematic, Bulthaup, Poggenpohl, etc. but finally decided on Henrybuilt because: 1) Henrybuilt is American. :-) Its a good feeling to buy American. 2) All those Euro brands seemed a little too severe in aesthetic, whereas Henrybuilt's natural woods and PLAM colors seemed a bit more accessible & honest. 3) We considered Venicia by Kraftsmaid but decided that the look was a bit too flashy for us. 4) Again, the weak US dollar made buying American an attractive choice 5) Henrybuilt production techniques are quite green - off gassing limits are orders of magnitude below federally acceptable levels, etc - but honestly, the green reasoning wasn't too high on our list. Comments (16)Hi Kiwigem- It has taken a while to reply, but we ended up being able to do something similar. We weren't originally planning to get new cabinets (just update the existing ones) but realized that it wasn't worth saving what was in there by the time we started taking them down. Since we were able to start from scratch I was able to move the range over and fit in a small cabinet to the left. I decided not to center it because although I think it would look nice I felt like it wouldn't be as practical to have such small workspaces around the stove (total cabinet run is 30"). We added a cabinet on the wall to the right only but I am starting to rethink your suggestion of open shelves on that wall only. What do you think about moving the cabinet all the way up to the ceiling and adding 1-2 open shelves below?...See MoreDeep fridge at end of cabinet run- can it work?
Comments (20)Kiwigem, thanks for the info on the Fisher and Paykel but it is way too small for us. We are 5 adults, Mom and Dad and three adult kids. Add to that the various girlfriends/boyfriends that seem to have taken up residence here at various times (at least they buy their own food LOL) we need all the space we can get.We currently have a 30 cu.in. SXS and an upright freezer in the basement and there are days that it still isn't enough. Still confused on placement. I need to post my plans and see what you guys come up with. I am always so amazed at your suggestions....See Morebonesoda
