No you will not regret it. Leave the wall oven out and enjoy.

I agree...it isn't a must have in my opinion. I would much rather have a great pantry! Plus, you will save $$$ doing it this way, unless you are thinking about purchasing one of the high dollar pro ranges. I think you should go with your gut and forget the wall oven.

If you are not used to having one, you probably wont miss it.

My old kitchen had a wall oven, and then a range with another oven.

I hated having to scramble on the floor to baste a turkey with a range oven. Seems ridiculous.

And yet, in my new kitchen I fell in love with a french stove. So I am back to scrambling on the floor. I miss the wall oven but chose form over function and I do love my new stove.

I went from a double wall oven set up to a single large range/oven combo and i love it.
I'd say the only caveat would be that now i use a toaster oven to heat up small things instead of waiting for the big oven to warm up. (not a bad thing just a new thing for me)
It does take longer than the wall ovens i had - they were kinda mini.

I'd argue that most "common" kitchens in America don't have a wall oven. My kitchen is 11x14 and I was blisfully not even considering a wall oven until I came here and then I panicked thinking I really needed to make one fit. Then I snapped back to reality and realized there's absolutely no way one will work in my space. I've never had one and I don't think I'll miss it. (Of course I still haven't figured out where my micro is going to go).

I love having my double wall oven. I cook a lot and so my ovens get a lot of use. I usually use both ovens when I am cooking. I went from a single oven to these double ovens and it has made my cooking endeavors so much easier. So, I think it depends on how you cook and how often you cook. I was lucky because I also got to have a walkin pantry in my reno.

Now, if I had to choose between the wall ovens or the walkin pantry, I'd choose the pantry. You can always work around only having one oven.

Nikkidan, I was in your position and chose for what I really wanted, and you won't even feel a rare wistfulness if you can find a tiny 30x30x24" space somewhere outside the kitchen where you could put a second oven if you ever felt a need for it. Tuck it in the laundry room, nearby garage, wherever.

Once we put a floor in our overflow pantry in the basement, our old Wedgewood stove will have a permanent home in more kitcheny surroundings than in my husband's shop. No big hurry. At this point it makes perfect sense to send him to check on the whatever. :)

Besides, it's almost never needed. I'm not a hobby baker, I really prefer to prepare as many dishes ahead of time as possible for big dinners, and a little menu adjustment makes most oven jams disappear before they occur. The one thing I have a little trouble working around is guests bringing dishes that need to be heated, or even baked. At those times the microwave's typically also busy and can only hold so much.

I've never had a wall oven but can see their advantages. In my new kitchen we did consider one but I wasn't prepared to give up counter space to put one in and for me it was all about the counter space.

We only have a wall oven in our new kitchen because the oven in our vintage stove is very small. I could could have barely fit a lasagna pan, and not a large cookie sheet in it.

I would gladly use a range's oven if it were a normal to large size.

A range oven is a darn fine oven.

BUT...do you have a place for the microwave? One reason I did a wall oven in my last remodel was because I had to have a place for the microwave so I might as well have an oven stack.

In my current kitchen I have a range and a small wall oven. When I decide which to use for something, it's based on size of oven and not if I have to bend or not. I don't mind the height of the range oven at all, except when the stupid dog is around.

I might worry about a range that got hot when the oven was on, though. But it's nice to be able to turn on the vent when you're burning fish in the oven.

I say it depends on the kind of cooking you do. We rarely eat out; don't ask us for a restaurant recommendation in St Pete because even after living here 4 years, we've been to fewer than a dozen different restaurants. Our kitchen is hot breakfast for the kids weekday mornings, lunches to go, family dinner together nearly every day.
So I use my wall oven/micro combo every. single. day. Usually multiple times a day. It is really, really nice not bending over to use it. Although, when I had the custom cabinets made (Scherrs), I had them lower the unit below the "standard" height because I also didn't want to reach up and over a hot oven door to get heavy stuff out - I had noticed that I had to approach my SIL's oven sort of from the side to be able to pull out big heavy items such as turkeys. Anyway, we have one big drawer underneath instead of a two-drawer stack that most people would have.
We rarely use our range oven because it's a huge 36" Wolf single oven and takes a good 45 minutes to warm up properly. Also, I have noticed that it is hotter cooking on the rangetop when the oven is in use, even with the big range hood sucking up the heat. So I pretty much only use it on holidays (i.e. 15 racks of ribs for 4th of July), or when I was roasting two chickens (until we got the new rotisserie grill).
We solved our storage issues by using all 30" deep cabinets, including our cabinet pantries that flank the fridge (dry storage and cold storage zones together, directly across from prep zone), with all 27" pullouts, uppers are 15".

I didn't put a wall oven in my new house, and I don't regret it. I love the look of a big commercial range, and I didn't want to take up any more space that could be used for cabinets. I do have a large island, and was able to put a MW drawer in there. If I ever feel I need it, I could put a second, smaller oven in the island, also....but I doubt I will.

We never had a wall oven and honestly have never missed it. We played around with the idea just to have two ovens, but the amount of times we need (well, really want) two ovens is so infrequent it wasn't worth it. We're happy to have not spent the money and honestly don't feel it's lack.

As many have said, if you don't already have a wall oven, you probably won't miss it. If you don't mind a lower oven, with your range...then go for the corner pantry! :)

Agree with everyone else -- a range oven is fine. Perhaps you can augment by having something like a Breville convection toaster oven -- I use mine a lot and having this little electric oven is a good complement to the gas oven in the range.

In our original construction, we didn't put in a wall oven. Next week, we are replacing our range with a ge cafe double oven range. I have never missed having a double oven, but thought we might need one for resale.

I agree with the poster who said it's all about how you cook and how great the need for it is.

To me, the only benefit of a wall oven is positioning if you are talking about a single. That to me wouldn't be worth it to sacrafice counter space. Any freestanding range offers a single oven. But IMO only a double wall oven is well worth it IF it's going to be used and doesn't require you to sacrafice something that's desperately needed. We use ours all the time.

For those not lacking for space at all, I would get a double wall oven for sure. Even if it's only used for holidays. If it requires zero sacrafice, why not? They are fantastic when you need one!

When we moved into this house 9 years ago it had wall ovens. I got used to having two ovens and used them a lot. I loved them, but missed having a big oven. I replaced them with bigger ones when we remodeled and am very happy.

I have a wall oven as my only oven--and I hate and despise it. Now, in part that is because it is small (I think it's 27".) In part because there is not "landing space" next to the oven other than the cook top. I am seriously considering removing the wall oven entirely when we re-do the kitchen...

I love my wall oven. It is a Gaggenaeu with a door that opens out from the side--no reaching over the oven door to remove a heavy roasting pan. I have a small kitchen and did not go with a double oven--just a large wall oven and a warming drawer. I do cook daily and rarely microwave--but I do have a convection microwave in the pantry for those occasions where I need two ovens.

ha! well, i had a double wall oven in my old house and loved it. but i really wanted a range in the new kitchen. and the night before i was to put in my cabinetry order i started revising my layout and snuck one in ...under counter in my island. i don't know that my knees will forgive me, but it seemed like the thing to do.

so i shouldn't answer this but, i DO think you can live without it. and if it means anything at all, it's not that i truly needed another oven. i installed a turbo chef oven because ...well, just because.

I had a wall oven for 18 years in my old kitchen. It was tiny - only 24", but I liked it so much I tried to figure a way to add one in the new kitchen. I just didn't have the room and ended up with a range instead. One year later, I don't miss the wall oven as much as I thought I would.

I agree with the people that say cooking style is everything. There are a couple posts above that say "I cook a lot, so I use my oven all the time." I cook every day, but use my oven maybe once a week (if that). Everything I do is either stovetop or on the outdoor grill. For me, I'd never sacrifice the counter space for a wall oven.

I think counter and pantry space is more important. We didn't have room in our kitchen for a wall oven so we are putting in a convection over the range microwave. Reviews say it works like an oven and even takes time to preheat on the oven setting but can still be used as a microwave so I figure when I need another oven I can use that!

I'm really surprised no one has mentioned aging in place issues. I think it goes without say that a wall oven is more ergonomically friendly and safer for aging eyes and failing backs and knees.

That said nikkidan, I have no idea what phase of life you are in, your functional arguments for eliminating the wall oven are compelling, and most importantly, if a pantry is what is making your heart sing, do not get a wall oven you think you should get and sacrifice what it is you really want. :)

Someone mentioned above about "common" kitchens having ranges, not wall ovens. And lots of common folks "age in place". My own mom lived and cooked with a 30" cheapo electric range until she was 93 and finally had to leave her house and come live with us.

My own kitchen is bigger than Mom's was, but still doesn't have enough counter space that I'd want to sacrifice any for wall ovens. I probably have as much space, maybe a little more than the OP. I intend to keep bending and lifting as long as I'm able, whether loading/unloading the oven or DW, wiping up after the dog, or laying out sewing patterns, as long as I am able. It is rather unrealistic to expect to have everything you want to do at eye level for one's entire life.

If you need to ask that question, then I think you have your answer. My feeling is that you know if you need it or won't be happy without it. I have double wall ovens and, as much as I loved the look and idea of a 48" range, I wouldn't give them up. But I knew that for me they were a "need" not a "want" or a "might be nice to have."

Our old kitchen had one wall oven and minimal counter space. We were focused on keeping appliances wherever possible and installed the old wall oven below the cooktop as if it were a range. The gain in counter space has been completely worth it-- we were able to add a work station for a second cook.

i have a wall oven instead of a standup fridge. I love it. But this is not a recommendation for anyone else to do the same thing as I did. My layout is mine; yours is yours.
