What is Best Instant Hot Water for Kitchen Sink?
Comments (10)I've had little butler's for years in two places with zero problems going on 9 years. Franke doesn't make the heater/tank and I'm not sure who does. It is exactly like a lot of others on the market from the likes of Mountain Plumbing and others. ISE's new system that replaced a unit they had tons of problems with claims to be all stainless. There is really nothing wrong with the LB, yes the plastic hoses and fittings can leak . But so can copper lines. IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO OPERATOR error. If installed properly by a patient plumber the hoses and fittings work fine. Wanna do it in 10 minutes and get the the next customer? Your gonna have problems. Re: the tanks, they are just like any other electric tank heater and subject to the same problems. Crappy water into them produces corrosion on the element and tank. Franke supplies a filter that alleviates much of this and should provide at least 10 yrs service unless your water is absolute crap AND or you don't change the filter. Because the tanks are very small the process can take very little time....See MoreConfused! Options for instant hot water AND water filter?
Comments (13)You don't need 3 separate faucets. I have two: the main faucet I use for washing (which isn't filtered) and then a small hot/cold faucet that's hooked to the filter and the instant hot. I left the filtered cold dispenser out of my original description because it's integrated with the instant hot system. The filter faucet I have is this one, I think. The only thing I don't like about it is that the hot lever is spring-loaded as a "safety" feature, so you have to hold it down to keep the water flowing. (I put "safety" in sneer quotes because I think it's less safe to force me to keep my hand near the hot water.) I actually have a ice/water dispenser on the fridge too. It dispenses chilled water, but it comes out quite a bit more slowly than the non-chilled water from the hold/cold dispenser by the sink. I tend to use the one on the fridge for a quick glass of ice water and the one by the sink for filling pitchers and other big stuff. I didn't try hooking the main faucet up to a filter because I think it would take a big filter to maintain the water pressure and flow rate you'd want from a faucet used for washing dishes, rinsing vegetables, etc. If I have time I'll try to post some photos of what my set-up looks like from above and below the sink. I may have to do a bit of cleaning first, though. :-) Depending on how carried away you want to get, a whole-house filter is an option. My next-door neighbor the plumber re-piped his house and put a big whole-house filter and softer system in his garage. It's two sealed units about 1 foot in diameter and 4 feet high each. He says they have to be changed every 5-10 years depending on how bad the city water is. I can ask him for the brand and model number if you'd like. It looked like a big job to install, though, not a DIY project. (Even for me, and I'm not afraid of sweating copper pipes.) And I'm sure we're talking at least a couple thousand dollars for the equipment and labor. Laura...See MoreUndercounter water filter / insta-hot / chiller
Comments (10)It's a new kitchen, so what about getting the kind of fridge that has cold water in the door? The instant scalding hot tank has to be undercounter near the tap. Also a water cooler if you get one. But a fridge can replace the water cooler. Here are a few details that may be good to know, brnstn. 1.) The water filter can be far far away, up high or down low somewhere not under the sink. So you could put it in the cabinet above the fridge or .... 2.) There are several kinds of water filter. Some are two large cylinders in series, and they give you a strong flow that *could* feed all the faucets. Some are tiny cylinders that produce a small flow; these then require special low-flow taps. 3.) In either case, the filtered water line could feed the IHW tank. This keeps the IHW tank cleaner as there is less sedimentation of gunk in the tank; then in turn this helps the tank last longer because there is then less corrosion. Any tank is a sedimentation device because the tank holds water, and every day, overnight, when all is quiet, particles and stuff will fall out of the water onto the bottom of the tank. (With house water heaters this is a big problem.)...See Moreinsinkerator gd recommendation?
Comments (7)If you have public sewer, then the Evolution Excel Garbage Disposal 1 HP for both sinks. If you get different ones, the more powerful one should be on the Prep Sink since that's where most of your "scraps" will be generated (peels, etc.) Do NOT get a "Badger" -- they're builder-grade and not as powerful or quiet (and they don't last as long). https://insinkerator.emerson.com/en-us/shop/insinkerator/insinkerator-evoexcel https://www.homedepot.com/p/InSinkErator-Evolution-Excel-1-HP-Continuous-Feed-Garbage-Disposal-EXCEL/100466652 . If you have a septic system like we do, then the Evolution Septic Assist Garbage Disposal. It's only 3/4 HP, but this is the one for septic systems. It's the one we have. Code for our area required we have a GD designed for septic systems. (11 years and still going strong! Amazon has the Bio-Charge and we get it on a "subscription" every 3 to 6 months -- I check b/f it ships to see if we need it.) https://insinkerator.emerson.com/en-us/shop/insinkerator/insinkerator-evosepticassist https://www.homedepot.com/p/InSinkErator-Evolution-Septic-Assist-3-4-HP-Continuous-Feed-Garbage-Disposal-SEPTIC-ASSIST/100466656 . Most DWs today do not need an air gap if they're installed correctly. However, if you live in California, then you will probably have to install one since many people here have stated that CA is behind the times when it comes to DWs....See Moredavidro1
