Does anyone have this or has anyone seen this in real life?

If you want a white sink, consider fireclay as an option for your prep sink or both. It would pair beautifully with your marble -- or both counters. I think 12x12 strains the usefulness of the prep sink. Mine is about 15x15 and I find that it is small enough to be able to fit some strainers across the top while being large enough top place a large pot or colander inside it. I think different sink finishes are okay with different counters, especially when undermounted, but it seems a bit disjointed to put the white with the dark counter and not put white with the white. I think the look could be a bit patchy.

I have a white Irontones sink, undermounted. No scratches so far, I do have the Kohler grid in it. I had another Kohler cast iron sink in the kitchen before the reno, I love cast iron. I did consider a Silgranit, but couldn't find a white one to see in person, so I chickened out. The only picture I have handy is just after installation, before the strainer was even installed.

My sink prior to the one that was christened last night was a black Kohler 1 + 3/4 bowl sink. It was (and still is gorgeous). I didn't protect it right in the beginning and it got scratched from pots. So I emailed Kohler about what to use. Here is their response: For surface marks that you cannot feel with your fingernail (silver marks), please use Comet powder or gel (other products are too abrasive). Your pots and pans are softer than the enamel on the sink, so it's the pot material coming off on the sink. Wet sink, sprinkle w/Comet, let 'sit' for 10 minutes or so and scrub with a dishcloth or sponge. For stubborn marks, make a paste of the Comet and water and apply with a cork for leverage and grind in the paste. We also have a wonderful, very new cast iron cleaner that can be purchased by calling 1-800-4-KOHLER (8 oz. bottle, $5.90); it will eventually be available in the stores. Bleach water in a sink is not recommended; bleach causes enamel to become porous and the product will consequently soak up stains more easily. 50:50 vinegar and water solution (keep a sprayer handy) helps to break up calcification and water spots. If there are scratches that can be felt with the fingernail, likely there are rough pots and pans (Calphalon is one brand that admits having a very rough-bottomed style of cookware - or stoneware dishes - or even a favorite coffee cup) with rough undersides that could cause scratching if the basins are not protected (protective accessories are available for each sink and we recommend their use). In this case, we would recommend automotive polishing compound followed by an application of paste wax and getting protective accessories to prevent further problems. It occurs to me, re household help, potential future babies, and a kitchen you have to baby, that given your parameters you really don't want to deal with the clay sink. The marble only needs to be babied if you hate patina. When I had marble (cheap beige in an apartment abroad) I promise I didn't baby it. It was fine. Yes, you can get scratches and pits, and if something colorful soaks in it's a pain to get it out (though sealer probably helps a heck of a lot with that), but, as the guy from The Petch House famously said here on GW, "It's ROCK!". Fireclay is more durable than vitreous china (what normal bathroom fixtures are made out of), but it's not iron. It's fine for the woman who doesn't cook, but all the ifs of who else might be dropping a heavy hot pan or banging into it on his bicycle make me think it might be a problem in the long run. Kohler's current surface is fired at extremely high temperatures which is what they say makes it so very hard to chip. If a greige (thanks, again, Casey!) chip in your dark blue won't bother you, you won't mind redoing that part of the kitchen if it has a problem, or if you're willing to chance that yours is going to be one of the ones that never gets damaged (because plenty don't), then go with the fireclay if you think it's prettiest. And in a very blue moon a Kohler gets damaged too (though I think there's a warranty). But I have a whole list of things that my housekeeper, who's very careful and conscientious, but not emotionally attached to my stuff the way I am, has nicked, misused or broken. And she's a treasure! I was mightily tempted by a V&B fireclay sink, but life's too short to worry about it.

I have seen it and they are beautiful. I did notice that I did not believe it would look beautiful too long under hard use. It is cast iron and just from people placing items in it at the store, it already had those scuff marks on it. I can just imagine the divided part looking scuffed all the time. If you do not mind cleaning a scast iron sink of scuffs from pans and silver ware, it may be the sink for you. If it was in stainless.... maybe.

I have one!!!! I'll attach photos I just took yesterday.
The sink was installed last Dec (07) and footballmom's beliefs/assumptions couldn't be more wrong (Sorry footballmom). I think in the 8 months I've used it, under normal everyday use with a family of four...I've maybe pulled out a cleaner stronger than Dawn dish soap 2-3 times! It's a breeze to clean and no chips or anything. I love it!!!! At Christmast the big roaster was a breeze to clean in the sink....as are big skillets with long handles that just hang over the divider, cookie sheets, etc.

My color is called seasalt - it's a very subtle white and offwhite salt looking finish....very pretty. I get lots of comments on it. Anyway, I whole heartedly recommend this sink. If you want to see other photos check out MN Kitchen which I just posted a few days ago.

No need to apologize. Real world experience always trumps "just looking." It always is helpful to know someone who has used a product and that is what is so great about this forum...there is almost always someone who has or has had an item. Gayle

I believe I have the same one as dlspellman, in white. Love it, love it, love it!

Just so you know, it is quite deep if you install it as an undermount with a thick counter as shown above. I haven't finished installing my dishwasher yet, so I've been using the sink a lot over the past month. It can get tiresome chasing all the silverware around the bottom since it seems waaaay down there. My sink grid just arrived today. Can't wait to try that out.

dlspellman: Your kitchen is gorgeous! I really love the way the sink looks. I am glad to hear that the wear and tear isn't so bad. We are a family of 5 and the sink gets lots of abuse so no more stainless steel for us.

I am still deciding between the Smart Divide and a Blanco Silgranite DIAMOND 1 3/4.

If anyone else has an opinion, please feel free, I'd love to hear more.

Thanks for asking the question. :) I have been eyeing this sink and pretty much narrowed it down to this one. Drop in though since I am not replacing my counters.

Now to decide what color!

I have one and love it. Its the best of both worlds. Big like a single bowl, but divided so I have a side for clean dishes and a side for dirty dishes. By the way a little barkeepers friend keeps it as clean as the day I got it (cleans those grey "scratches"from pots right out) Here is a not so great picture:

If you like the design of the Kohler Smart Divide, but would rather have silgranite like material instead of cast iron, you might like what I got. It is made by Swanstone and is most likely more reasonable in price for the budget concious folks like me. The sink is being installed as we speak, and I can take a picture later and post. Obviously have not used it yet and cannot give you life experience report. But from all the silgranite sink owners we hear from here, we know it's well loved. Below is a link to Swanstone.

They have 2 styles - one called Ascend Bowl and the other called Large/Small Bowl. I have the latter, but really like the Ascend Bowl and almost bought it.

I have the Swanstone low divide sink and I just love it!!The one problem I had with it (tea bag sat over night--oops), clorox cleanup took care of. The one I have is the beige color...hth
