I hardly am qualified to comment on layout. But I'm going through the same process. we've been working with an architect and builder for several months getting ready to build. After watching many critiques here I went back to KD last week to move my sink, which was in my island directly in line with my range on the wall.
After listening to advice here, all without submitting my own plan because I don't have a format I can post, I realized my kitchen was a one person kitchen, which I didn't want.
So the questions are: how many people are working in your kitchen? What's on the other side of that island? If that's both your clean up and your prep sink are you prepared to have dirty dishes on the counter while you eat at the island? Do you have another dining area or will you be eating primarily at the island?

My advice would be range on bottom wall (flank it with windows, it is a beautiful look) the clean-up sink and DW on the wall to the right, and a nice prep sink on the island off center toward the fridge. Do a "wall of tall" with the built-in fridge, wall oven and MW on the left.

And no, clean-up sinks don't need to look at something interesting. You don't spend nearly as much time there (or gazing, at that) as people like to think. My clean up sink looks at a wall, and everyone who has worked in my kitchen, helped out, etc. has commented on how much they like it. You will spend more time at the prep sink - washing veggies or draining pasta and a kitchen of this size nearly demands 2 sinks.

What is going in the "butler's pantry?" Some people have also returned to the "scullery" design, which moves the mess and clean up to a separate room where many of the dishes are then stored.

I like the idea of range or cook top with windows on each side :)

Multiple chefs is all about access to appliances, food and water. And the trash.

An efficient kitchen is tight but with room for others to work and get around. A for instance in the illustration, I would think about adding a two burner induction surface in front of the second smaller window - meant for dessert/soup or vegetables. And/or occasional grilled cheese or other casual quick cook items that older children or teens could use. It's part of why I would site the micro in a space usable without crossing into the main cook zone - so it was usable by others.

I would absolutely change the refrigeration scheme by adding beverage storage that was out of the main cooking paths. I would also truly consider using "twins" (whirlpool, electrolux, fridgidaire commercial, subzero or traulsen) by the pantry - either built ins or seperates with trim pieces. They would be handy for major pulls, but I'd also have my top twenty items in ref drawers near the cooktop (eggs, milk, butter, tonights veg, etc).

I would try really hard to get a cook top and prep sink on the island as well as one prep space. It's not because I like theatre cooking, it's because I like to participate with who ever is around - which for me is spouse or relatives.

It automatically puts helpers on the other side of the island or on the long counter with the cleanup sink.

Nobody would make exactly what I drew, but I wanted to show a very different layout of the same stuff to help open possibilities.

Many people select ranges and range hoods and backsplash to use as a focal point. If so, you want it on the wall.

Where is the best view? Standing at the island, or behind you? If the view is nice out the window, I would want my sink there. Personally, I like clear islands. To me it is nicer to entertain.

I think you also want to ask yourself, from what direction will you and/or company enter the room? What do you most want to see when you enter that way?

I've attached a modified version of the kitchen layout, along with the rooms surrounding so you can get a better idea of the kitchen context. In this layout I moved the range to the bottom wall, flanked by two windows, and added a prep sink on the island. The sink/dishwasher has been moved to the right wall.

Traffic will usually flow into the kitchen from the upper right or upper left. The best view will be out of the windows at the top of the drawing, from the great room. The windows in the kitchen will look out at the motor court.

Usually one person will be cooking but we want the kitchen to be comfortable for two.

I'm still thinking about some of the other ideas posted here, but thought I'd offer this updated layout for consideration!
