Sub-Zero Platinum vs Stainless
Comments (6)I can't find any information on "platinum steel" at all, but I would assume that it's a whiter gray color than the ordinary stainless. It's probably very pretty. But if you're getting a lot of stainless steel in your kitchen, if my assumption is correct, it might look funny with the rest. Sometimes, especially in a partially open kitchen, the fridge is the only appliance showing. If so, it might not matter to you if the hidden appliances (e.g., oven) don't match, and if the big, showing one is a pretty color. I loved the aluminum fronts that Gaggenau offered my ovens in. I have a stainless Advantium on the other side of the room, same height, however, and a couple of stainless faucets, plus the cooktops with black in the middle. That was enough to dissuade me. I don't have a great love for the stainless look (it seems "ordinary" and "functional" to me, since I grew up with stainless), and thought the aluminum was lovely, but all these disparate appliances look fine together because they're all more or less stainless with black trim. The blue of the aluminum would have stuck out, even though it would be on its own wall. Maybe there's a functional difference too, like if one shows fingerprints and smears more, and I might be wrong about the color thing, but it's something to keep in mind....See MoreDifferences in stainless steel appliance's stainless steel
Comments (7)The other option is to just get over it. :) A kitchen is a workroom. Most people prefer to choose best in class from many different manufacturers to ensure their work room works efficiently. No manufacture makes best in class in each category, so if you choose the best functioning DW, you will probably end up with a different brand range and a different brand fridge anyway. As long as everything IS stainless, it's fine. And, there are plenty of people who even mix stainless and non stainless successfully. Anyone who comes in your home and turns their nose up at coordinating stainless appliances that do not necessarily match needs to be thrown out of your home....See MoreSamsung FD's real stainless vs. stainless platinum
Comments (7)The platinum finish is just like the white or black: it's painted and coated. It is just as hardy as white or black; you can't easily get scratches in it. It allows the use of fridge magnets. It has a matt surface and doesn't show fingerprints, which also means it doesn't show reflections of your ceiling lights the way SS does. You can see the different Samsung finishes at Lowes, and you can certainly tell the difference in the store---platinum looks like matt stainless and is a different shade. But it certainly looks like stainless. Indeed, for purists, platinum is "fake"---it's pretending to be something it is not, like woodgrain laminate. But while wood is desirable as a natural material, stainless is just another alloy....See MoreMixing finishes - Stainless vs satin nickel vs brushed steel
Comments (5)Our sink fixtures are a mix of satin nickel and brushed SS and they look fine together. Our lights are pewter. Our drawer pulls and door knobs are antique iron. Our pantry door hardware is brushed nickel. They all look fine together. My personal preference is to have hardware and fixtures in the same color "family" - usually broken down into "silver" or "gold". However, you can mix them up if you're careful bow you do it....See MoreBuehl
