Do You Have A Jenn-Air French Door Fridge?Would You Recommend It?

My 12 year old white Whirlpool side by side is slowly breaking down and I would like to replace it with a free standing Jenn-Air FD counter depth all stainless fridge. I chose Jenn-Air because the entire exterior is stainless, a black or gray metallic cabinet would not do since one side of the fridge is open to the rest of the kitchen.

One issue we may have is that the fridge is located about a foot from the cabinet run, so the other side is almost in a corner. This has not been a problem for our side by side since the freezer door is s narrower and we rarely swing it open past 110 degrees so it doesn't hit the countertop. And it would be the handle that hits the counter, not the door itself.

If you have a freestanding Jenn-Air, what do you think of it? If you have the model linked below, I would be curious as to where you bought it and how much it cost as well.

We have one. Love the fridge. Hate the dishwasher BTW. We bought the Jenn Air precisely because it goes in a corner and wanted to have better access with the double doors.

Just got a new SS CD Jenn Air about a month ago and love it. Very reasonably priced and believe it still has a $200 rebate and free installation. We got the 69 1/2" height one with water inside with pro style handles and it was $2,099 less $200 rebate with free installation

I assume you mean the 72" high one... and to answer for everyone - noone will have it because as of this moment the very first units are becoming available this week. however you should look for someone with a kfcs22 - that is the kitchenaid variant that has been out for about 2 months now

Jenn Air, Kitchen Aid, Viking are the same cabinet styles, made by Whirlpool Corporation. You will find two heights offered in the french door models without dispensers. However; Whirlpool is in transition mode with new models. This means you may find more selections than I said but also you could find a great buy on a closeout. I'm not sure if Samsung has finally went away from the magnetic seal setup they use to allow for both doors to close on the refrigerator. This magnetic seal is similar to the mechanisms used by Whirlpool in the early 80's that was so problematic that french door refrigerators disappeared for twenty years until the flap mechanisms on all Whirlpool made french doors was implemented.

The designer I'm working with really wants me to get a counter depth fridge. The one I have now is standard depth, it is beside a built in desk and doesn't stick out that much. I don't think the depth is a big issue. The major issue my current fridge is white. In my kitchen with golden faux finished walls, cherry cabinets and soapstone countertops, it sticks out. It is like the last hang over from my previous kitchen. To answer your original question, I am going to keep my old refrigerator in the pantry where I have a freezer now and move the freezer to the basement. But I haven't ruled out getting a bigger refrigerator but I would have to give up the cool oiled bronze finnish to do that. I would go either with black or a satin stainless steel that didn't smudge then.

Sadly no. We got the SS CD French door with the pro handles. I get cold spots in the fridge, so that sometimes things like lettuce and carrots get frozen if they're toward the back wall. (And of course frozen lettuce = mush.) I'm constantly upping the temp a couple degrees and it keeps going back to where it was. Mine is 3 years old though, so I'm sure improvements have been made.

One small quibble is that I wish the bottom drawer in the fridge section was split. It's nice that it's wide, but you have to open both doors to pull out the drawer. (BTW, DH disagrees because when we have something long, like a long plank of salmon, it's nice to have the wide drawer. So you might like it too.)

Like Chicagoans's that there are cold spots in our the fridge. Ours are in the long bottom drawer, towards the back. The space layout is efficient. don't like the stainless steel though, show fingerprint like crazy

It's good to hear a variety of opinions on the Jenn-Air fridge. Chicgoans, yours might be three years old but Whirlpool sticks with a design for many years, no doubt it's not too different for Jenn-Air. We have lots of freezing going on in our current Whirlpool fridge, but I think a lot of that has to do with the constant opening and closing that goes on with a family of nine.... we must keep the temp down to keep the cabinet cold enough for the milk to taste good, but it freezes lettuce and strawberries. Even our eggs, sometimes.

sskit: Where did you buy yours? You got a fabulous deal - what a price! I'm looking at $2900 as the lowest so far for the 72" CD french door fridge. That is so much money, but I have to have the SS all the way around the cabinet. I'm thinking this recession should have more of a downward pressure on appliance prices!

cupofkindness - Purchased mine off dealer in Pittsburgh but I believe JA is pretty much the same price everywhere. For some reason the 72" was a good bit more but can not remember exactly how much that is why we went with the 69 1/2" (we were redoing whole kitchen so it did not matter). I know it is not the same as built in but for us and the $ difference it was a no brainer. I also checked it out on consumer reports and the JA FD had a very good rating. We also got a free 2nd year warranty on this and other JA appliances we bought because they were installed by authorized JA dealer.

Good news! My old Whirlpool stopped the electrical buzzing sound and the ice maker is working again (defrosted some ice that had jammed up the mechanism-very difficult to see).

So we dodged this bullet for the time being. And I'm grateful to hear that most of you like your Jenn-Air French door fridge, they seem beautiful and well-made.

We have the JA CD FD > 5yrs now
I LOVE it - amazed at the efficient use of space, ease of seeing everything (throw out less rotten food), great ice maker, internal water dispenser - it is QUIET, super reliable
I don't find fingerprint issue - micro fiber daily & wax once in awhile w/SS magic
