Nervous, bs goes in tomorrow!

I have been so anxious to post a reveal but wanted to wait for the bs. Well, tomorrow is the big day and I am so worried. I love the tumbled marble but I have gotten used to having just a painted wall for the bs. The tile didn't seem busy when I chose it but it may be busy on the wall. I know it's only tile and know I can have it torn out and choose something different but I am totally reno-ed out. Keep your fingers crossed for a good outcome!

Yippy!!! I can't wait to see all that you've done. I'm sure it will be beautiful. It will be like getting a brand new kitchen again!!! I'll keep everything crossed for you.

btw - I was thinking of you...I'm about to select my WS faucet finish!!!

Um, now who's being the noisy neighbor? She's scaring your children by slamming things downstairs. Did you mention that? I'm w/ moonshadow, don't worry about her plates anymore. Now do not EVER bring up your kids, and the floors, and the noise, with her again. I live in an apt. bldg w/ thinnish floors (thick walls, thinnish floors). I hear my downstair's neighbors music from time to time--not loud, but I can tell it's there. I can hear the floor creak when my neighbor walks. if she puts together furniture, it's loud. But it doesn't impinge on my life, BECAUSE I IGNORE IT. it doesn't even register--you could ask me 1/2 hour later if I heard the music, and I'll tell you no. I heard it; I just didn't remember it. But-- I can't ignore it if someone talks about it. I hate when my dad comes to visit, bcs he's always commenting, "Oh, someone's using the elevator" (it opens into the apt., so you hear it faintly when it goes past). "Oh, your neighbor's walking around." So then when he TALKS about it, I notice the noise suddenly. And remember it. I get really crabb with him. I've even said to him, "You are not to mention that noise--you must not talk about it. My neighbors and I live in peace by agreeing not to notice, and I can't do that with you commenting all the time!" And on the same lines, what you've done is train yourself and your neighbor to only talk about noise--which means you both notice it. So stop. Never talk about noise w/ her again. if she brings it up, change the subject as fast as you can. Talk about the weather. Or flat-out say, "I find that it's easier to cope with the noise of the people who live around me if I just don't dwell on it. So I hate to talk about it. See you!" Right now your relationship w/ her is ONLY about noise. It needs to be less about that and more about the weather and which grocery stores has the best prices on chicken. You're a considerate person; your kids will never jump repeatedly over her head for hours on end. So if they jump 3x before you can stop them, she can deal. In a way, this is good, this last incident w/ her. Her scaring your child by slamming so much is YOUR out. At least your noise isn't hostile and frightening, and it doesn't happen for a long period of time. And a biggie here--it wasn't deliberately being created by a grownup. If your kids jump off the sofa while playing pirate, before you catch them, they're not intentionally making noise for the purpose of making noise, and neither are you. But she WAS!! Relax now. Just live. Stop them from running, don't let them jump off the sofa, and don't worry about it.

I've had my 48" bluestar for almost 5 yrs now. It arrived flawless and has remained a heavy duty workhorse ever since with no issues. They are HEAVY tho and because of this fact there is more chance of damage while in transit. I had overseen a lot of deliveries of these heavy appliances when I was in the general contracting and interior design busniess and its scary how the transit companies and the dealers delivery personelle treat these things. Part of the problem is under staffing. Some appliance dealers send ONE guy out to deliver these things. As others have said, inspect it well and I wouldn't be penny wise. If you do move it yourself, as others said remove the loose items, including the floor pan(s) in the oven as well as the door(s). These items alone are extremly heavy. I bet you can lighten the load by about 40% if take all these things out. I hope all goes well and you enjoy your purchase.

My problems have been relatively minor so far. Demo started last Monday. On the first day, the power went off in my neighborhood for two hours. Not my GC's fault. This was, however, an omen. I had told the GC that I wanted the wall oven lower because I'm short, and he said he'd keep it at the same height as the current one. But, in fact, he raised it 6 inches. That one I caught in the framing stage, so he's fixing it. I think he forgot. Then he asked me as he was heading out to buy lights, did I want black or white UC lights. He recommended white, I'm not good with quick decisions (why I read GW for months) and said OK. Before I could tell him I really thought I'd rather have black, the white was installed (it was the same day - at least he's quick). That wasn't really his fault - I should have asked for time to decide. But we did discuss where to place the recessed lights, since the joist ran right where they should go, so they could be too close or too far from the cabinets, and I'm quite sure we had decided on too far, but he installed them, instead, too close. If this was due to a decision on his part, shouldn't he have mentioned it to me? I think he forgot again, and it was the same day. But I didn't notice until the ceiling drywall was done, so too late! The most recent thing is not really his fault, except indirectly. I'm donating the cabs and metal stuff to Habitat for Humanity Restore. They said they would be selling the oven for scrap, which was a shame, but at least it wasn't going to the landfill. When the GC demo'd, he put the oven in the driveway instead of the garage with the rest, and I reminded him that it was being donated (I'm seeing a pattern of forgetting here). I knew it was very heavy, so I told him that it was OK to leave it there - it was up by the garage, behind the dumpster, not easily visible from the street, and it didn't matter if it was rained on, but I told him to be sure not to put it in the dumpster. That was last week. Habitat comes tomorrow. Today, while my teenage daughter was home alone, a man and woman in a pickup truck came up the driveway with a dolley and took the oven, wheeling it between the dumpster and our Buick Rendezvous. My DD called my DH, who doesn't ever listen to me when I tell him what is going on, and he told her it was OK if someone could use it. She was afraid to go out and say anything to these people anyway - she's only 13. So my beloved oven was stolen by scrappers. I understand if something is at the curb, it's fair game, but no one should walk up your driveway and spend 15 minutes trying to figure out how to get an double oven into their pickup truck. I'm really PO'd. So it's been only 7 days of remodel, and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. From now on, every piddling thing is going to be in writing. Still, my stories are nowhere near as bad as all of yours. Clearly, no amount of planning - or wine - is ever enough.

It will be beautiful & you won't be ripping it out. But I will be freaking out the day before my BS goes in. Which reminds me, I need to start obsessing about grout.

Just remember, it probably WILL seem busy when it first goes in because you are used to looking at a plain wall. So don't panic...kind of like when you paint a new color and it looks so jarring those first couple of strokes.....in a few days it will probably look fine to you. Here's hoping you love it!! And we can't wait to see it!

Oh, I sure hope you don't have to tear it out and red-do it. Having done that myself, I can tell you that it's no fun. Unfortunately, I didn't find GW until my remodel was almost done. I hate clowns, and yet I ended up with TWO in my kitchen! I think you've been hanging around here long enough to avoid that sort of thing. In any case, fingers crossed tightly for you. Good luck!

Joaniepoanie offers excellent advice. I probably win the award for longest period of ABB in history:) When my tile first started going up, I was having some regrets. I didn't really love it until it was grouted, cleaned, and my stuff was back on the counters. It was just such a change after bare walls.

The tile is all in with the spacers in place. They sealed it prior to installing and will reveal after it is grouted tomorrow.

Hurray! So excited for you! It does look a little pink on my monitor, but only in the middle of the pictures - like right behind the range, and right behind the faucet. The color on the outsides of the outlets looks like it is perfect.

The spacers could do it, it looks like some kind of light/shadow play. Do you have UCLs or a hood light you could turn on? Don't worry about us, we know it isn't pink and can wait (but not patiently) for a real reveal. Have I told you lately how much I love those handles?!

It all looks great together! I love your sink area -- that beautiful WS faucet with the farm sink and the gorgeous view out the windows. And I agree with kksmama: don't worry about us, we're just sitting here tapping our feet, waiting to see your reveal (and I wouldn't have noticed the pinkish tinge to the tile if you hadn't mentioned it. It's only on the center of the photos, and really looks like an artifact of the photo, not of the tile itself.)

Thanks everyone. I am really liking it. I will take some pics tomorrow after it is grouted and do a full reveal this weekend.

Kk, I love my pulls too. They were the item that took the longest.

Mgo,I do love the WS and can't wait to see which finish you will choose.

Just and Romy, we do have a nice view from the kitchen window.

I am anxious to do the full reveal. My kitchen is small but I really love it now that it's finished.

AR they are custom cabs from Wayneco, a local kitchen company.

If I'm not too wiped out when I get home tonight I will do my reveal early but usually after work it is difficult to muster the energy to prepare dinner let alone take pics but I am anxious too.
