Finished kitchen - How to do a proper reveal

At long last I am almost ready to do a reveal. There are a couple of minor things but we have moved in and have been cooking in the new kitchen and enjoying rest of the new house.

I think all GW reveals are lovely but definitely some are really fantastic. These are threads you keep coming back to again and again and there are so many details to pore over. So what makes a great reveal - please add to this list and

Lots of photos in good lighting
Show the details
Name brands and models
Be candid and share as much details as you can
What else?

I really love seeing a few (like1-3) key wide shots with before/after taken from roughly the same place/direction to help orient the viewer to how the space was changed. Some of the transformations are extensive, especially when walls/windows/doors are involved and I find it hard to follow. Love the end results, but miss some of the appreciation for what work it entailed.

I think a lot of questions might also be answered if a final floor plan was included. We get to see so many versions of so many kitchens, usually well before construction starts. It's near impossible sometimes to locate that final plan even with the power of google!

I absolutely love the reveal threads! If you see a kitchen you love, it has all the details in one place! They all look great, but I'm glad even most of the face-lift projects and smaller budget kitchens get posted. They are often great sources of inspiration, very imaginative, and probably more reflective of what many people are working with. Never underestimate the ingenuity of the TKO on a budget!

Hi Chrissy, I do not have Anderson Windows. They were put in by a local window and siding company(long before the renovation) that is no longer in business. I absolutely love Simply White. It is a soft white without being a stark white. I think it is even Ben Moore's Color of the Year. No, it does not match our white vinyl windows. It is something that only I notice, but probably not anyone else. Usually details like that really bother me, but this does not. Probably, if I were getting new windows and picking white paint at the same time, it is something that I would way over think. But since we put the windows in many years before the renovation, there was nothing I could do about it. I knew I wanted Simply White for my cabinet color, so I don't let it bother me. pandora1

The reason the photos have vanished is because Photobucket changed their policy in June 2017 and no longer allows people with free Photobucket accounts to post pictures to a 3rd party website. If the individuals that posted pictures to other websites want the link fixed they have to upgrade their Photobucket account at the cost of $399. If you google Photobucket 3rd party hosting you will find lots of articles about this change and how upset people are that Photobucket is holding their images hostage. Russ, the kitchen proper is 21'10" x 13'10", the area just past the bar sink where kitchen table sits is 13'4". The island is 87.5" x 66" -- which I just realized, because you made me look at the plan, they shorted me a few inches! The plan calls for 67 7/8". (Not that I care one bit, I never want to see the countertop people again.) The overhang is 15" at the top and 16.5" on the side and completely comfortable. Tibb, the counter is walnut, not stained, we chose walnut for its natural darker color. Since we've had them I've just been putting mineral oil on them, but they constantly feel and look dry to me. With crumbs from toaster and coffee and wine and bar stuff, they are constantly being wiped. So just this weekend I sanded them down to remove any trace of mineral oil. I have applied one coat of tung oil, have to wait 24 hours between coats and then I want to apply two more coats. We shall see. I originally went with mineral oil because I thought I'd cut on them, but they are too beautiful to cut on! So I'd rather have a bit more protection on them, and hopefully easier maintenance, I was bad keeping up with the mineral oil.

Very happy with them! nosoccermom I'm sorry but I'm not at home this week, so I can't answer any dimension questions at the moment. But in terms of layout, I wouldn't change a thing. Thought maybe it would be annoying to have the fridge a little farther away from the work area, but it's not an issue at all. katieleabrown86 The black is not hard to keep clean. Sometimes crumbs do show a little more, but that's easy enough to fix. Because of the leathered finish, streaks don't show at all.

I'm a sucker for drawer/shelf organizers. I like the reveals when the contractor has just cleared out and the kitchen's all brand-spanking new and free of dust... but I love the ones when the kitchen stuff is moved in and I can see how s/he organized the dry goods, the cutlery drawer, the kids' snacks, etc.

I'll be honest, I appreciate it when the kitchen is uncluttered and cleaned up. I don't want to see a bunch of mess on your counters unless it belongs there. Small children or adorable pets in the picture are a plus.

I don't mind seeing a demo shot, since it helps me to understand at a glance how drastic the changes were (if it was a gut job or not.)

I find it really helpful when people explain why they chose what they did, in a material or feature. Also, if they had to give up something, or if something proved difficult to accomplish, some brief info about what happened and how it was resolved.

I guess I'm a "gory details" person, I don't mind seeing the guts or knowing what was the most challenging!

I don't mind one demo shot. I don't like scrolling through several of them to get to the good stuff!
