Thank you! We have a cabinet maker making them for us - largely in place and fitted to the house (cabs all the way to ceiling and face frame scribed to plaster etc). Long process, but very neat to be so involved in the process - we have been able to specify the materials used and went to the lumber place to hand choose the exact boards used. So while we aren't making them ourselves, we are really invested - tko!

The joinery for the drawer boxes is a dovetail, joinery for the panels is mortise and tenon, and the face frames are mortised and tenon and splined to the cabinet boxes.

Oh my! My breath literally caught in my throat, and my heart may actually have skipped a beat when I scrolled up and saw the wood grain in your first pic of the drawer front! Holy, holy, holy....Is that magnificent or what!

We originally thought of doing subway tile from Motawi Tile, but that turned out to be cost prohibitive, so we ended up doing 4" soapstone along most of it, with the larger, full thickness sections behind the stove and sink. The stove is actually recessed into the stone. I think it has been the right choice. There is so much going on in the figuring in the wood and in the stone, the simpler painted backsplash works. A few more recent pics forthcoming and eventually a reveal thread :)

Stove and sink backsplashes. For photo above we are still considering the tile for this small area as it is somewhat off on its own.

The big wall of cabinets. Still waiting on one last drawer here - so will not be open at bottom on right and drawer front looks like two doors. Built as two doors and then splined together as one front. Continuous grain in stiles and panels all the way down.

I like subway backsplashes but I think the way you've done yours using the stone suits the cabinets perfectly. I really like the window sill you created with the top edge detail on the backsplash behind the stove and sink.

Thanks for the sneak a peek. Really lovely. Have you noticed any darkening of the cherry yet? For some reason I'm worried about that in my case. I know to expect it to darken but just don't know how much.

Thank you! It has darkened some but mostly equalizing now. It darkens some with the Danish oil, and with the sunlight. Likely reaching a final color. But it is really a lovely shade. It has taken us a long time to get here so some pieces have literally been here for months prior to others. For awhile you could definitely tell the progression of cabinet build progress by what was darker. It is all pretty consistent now and not too dark. The bookcase has been the last piece of casework to be built and even it is pretty similar to the others now. Everything got another coat of oil today as the cabinet maker continues to make final adjustments. So cool they just glow!

Your lights are great.. Rejuvenation?

I'm going to have the same window sill/bs with our counter top. I think that looks great. Also think that little spot by itself is a great place for a beautiful tile treatment.
