kitchen floor for white cabinets with princess white counters
Comments (18)We will be starting demolition next week on our kitchen/dining remodel. I have also chosen the Du Chateau White Antique Vernal Collection flooring which will run throughout the kitchen, dining and living areas, about 900 sq ft total. We will have white cabinets with a metallic glaze and either the White Macaubas or Madre Perola quartzite countertop (waiting to see if the Madre Perola opens up at the warehouse). It will be a white modern looking kitchen with lots of windows and glass. I chose the Du Chateau because it has a matte finish (showing less dirt/dust), it has low VOC, the ease of which you can clean stains - just rub oil into it, and the fact that the oil helps it repel water. Everyone was trying to talk me out of it as it is so expensive and it felt like it was an uphill battle at times but I persevered. No one up this far North really has it so it was a huge effort to track down samples. I have quite a reputation at the distributorship. But, I did get my way and the contractor is going to order it any day now. I would love to see pictures of it JAM_SF once you get it installed. I think the flooring will elevate the entire remodel to a casual elegance and will be the highlight of the remodel....See Morewhite quartz countertops and staining
Comments (177)I have a kitchen table from Room & Board that has a white quartz top. It does occasionally stain with ink, pencil, colored pencil, etc. Normally I use a homemade cleaner with water, alcohol and blue dawn. It gets everything out for me. I did have one stain from the magnet on the back of my phone case which came in contact with water. I used bar keepers friend and it came right off. I am only left with a small mark that was on the table when it was delivered (we were out of the country and someone else received the table and didn’t say anything to the delivery men). It appears to be a small ink mark. We have been able to dull it slightly, but haven’t been successful at removing it. I will try the greased lightning suggested above, and maybe diluted bleach as a last resort....See MoreWhite cabinet concerns
Comments (13)My white shaker cabs are Kraftmaid factory finished dove white painted on maple wood. They have held up beautifully for 2.5 years so far and that is with three young kids and a dog. Every few weeks, I give the a wipe down with some dish soap and water and then wipe dry. I'm very careful not to use any harsh cleaners on them, I just try to address stains when I see them (mostly). They've been splashed with red wine, tomato sauce and I even had a leaky bottle of balsamic vinegar, that splashed on the cab door, but even that wiped clean without stain or residue. There's been just a slight amount of wear and tear at the edge of the trash drawer which take the most abuse of any cabinet in our house. If it were me and they were just installed and already stains are showing and not coming clean, I'd be concerned. I know nothing about paint finishes, but I would think a good finish should withstand contact with standing elements, as long as it's not left on the cabinets for days. I'd ask the contractor exactly what brand paint was used, what type (oil based or latex?) and how many coats the cabinets received....See MoreStaining of White Quartz/Caesarstone/Cambria, Quartzite Countertops
Comments (4)Thank you. I will consider the under cabinets and taj mahal quartz. The thought was I could re-design the interior of cabinets by inserting customize storage needs DIY; the shells are fine; not luxury but they are capable of holding things, though space is admittedly lost in two corners. They may appear they are ready to collapse but they are hung rock steady-- a couple doors could be made straight. The kitchen floor will be leveled in next 4 weeks so that could address some crookedness in bottom cabinets-- the floor drops 2 inches-- in a 12 ft. run from stove to dishwasher corner but the countertop isn't crooked... level within 1/10 inch on the whole "L" shape. I have lots of chunks of $10K going out in other parts of the house so cabinets ranked low.. whereas a sink that I found functional with a non-spliced countertop and backsplash, safe and plentiful electrical outlets --those items ranked high--things one needs to really cook. I guess we all have our value system based on how we live....See Morelive_wire_oak
