Do glass tiles interest you? Or 4 or 6 inch square tiles? I feel the room would look great with 4 inch tiles in a solid color that blends or compliments the granite.

They do have beadboard tile which would look really nice!

I'll second CKGM's idea of beadboard tile. Someone did it about a year ago and it was very charming. I'll link it below.

I think the ceramic beadboard tile would look beautiful, or a simple glass tile. I have that granite (or a very similar one?) in my current house which we are preparing to sell. We have simple, builder's grade white square tile as a backsplash, which was uninspired to say the least (!), but I always liked the clean white look with that granite since it has such nice color and movement.

Mule, I might like the 4 inch tiles. This granite as beautiful as I think it is was not my first choice. I wanted butcher block but DH did not like that. Still not sure of the color though, I don't know if I want more green, certainly not black, possibly white but there is a lot of white in the small room already. The floor is a honey colored pine and I put down a chocolate brown area rug so my big old dog can walk easily out to the yard. I want comfortable cottage.

I have 18 inches between the counter and the bottom of the wall cabs. Not sure if I am going to put up the light rail on the wall cabs.

You mentioned your husband likes tile on the diagonal - so including one picture of our tile - not the right colors for your kitchen but you can show your DH.

We only did the little accents over the cooktop but did the accent strip all the way around. I have recent posting to show more views or if you want, I can post more later on today

The same company has a green tea and a green tea blend (without crackles) that might work if you want to have some green (you were not sure)
I worked with Nelson at Tile-Shop.com but the also carry it at a few east coast stores including Malsnee tile near Reading PA(Leesport but in reality closer to Reading)

I think beadboard tile is a great idea. I have also always had a soft spot for penny round tile and have it seen it done in stainless, which looked fantastic. Fresh and vintage at the same time.

I love your kitchen! I agree that the ceramic beadboard would look great, especially since that is what you were thinking of in the first place. There have a been a couple of great kitchens revealed lately that used a beautiful sunflower patten mosaic backsplash. I think this would look nice in your kitchen as well.

It's a very pretty granite. It has movement and interest, but is subtle all the same. This gives you a lot of freedom with your bs choice.

If you ever envision a time when you will want to emphasize colors in the stone other than the green, I recommend keeping a neutral bs. If, on the other hand, you love green, have always loved green, and might change shades, but will always have a green kitchen, you can afford to punch up the color and go a bit bolder. I'm showing two glass mosaics with green, and Fireclay debris tile gloss with engobe in Spanish Moss, available in many sizes.

Beautiful granite. I'd keep it simple. I love Positano's with the classic white subway tile. That was my first thought, but laurainlincoln's suggestion of pennyround would be interesting. Never knew there was a beadboard tile! I'll have to check that out.

A2, thanks for the photos and the contact. I think I have the same hood, Broan, in white though. It's not up yet. We had an appointment with someone to do the ductwork but he didn't confirm/show up but I'm thinking that's a blessing because it's probably easier to install the BS without it up there? There's a lot of pizzazz in that glass strip, so pretty with the tiles on the diagonal and the little squares over the stove. I am liking the tea blend subways. Now we're talking.

Kitchenaddict, thanks for the link. Funny I used Positano's reference when shopping for a sink because I believe she has a 27 sink cab like I do. I really like the subway tiles and I do love her area by the stove.

EAM44, thanks for taking the time to put this together and the points I should give consideration to as for my continued love of green. I really like the greener glass mosaic. I have a small kitchen so that might not be overwhelming to me.

Whatever you choose will look great with that beautiful granite - I agree with CK - that the blend might be too much - and maybe the tea by itself would be better . They will send you samples if you don't live in the area.

Heath also has some beautiful greens that might work - beautiful tile but it is not inexpensive ($25-35 sq foot - but then there are the $100+ sq foot Motawi and Pewabic....) - My budget couldn't swing any of those - but if your kitchen is smaller - you might look into Heath. Wendy will send you samples.

Jeffrey Court also has some nice ones - I forget the chapter but I think it is the Irish tiles (Chapter 17?)

LOL - it is pretty bad to be on the first name basis with multiple tile shops.... I have plenty of samples if you are in the area.

labie - I love the sunflower too - didn't know it was called that. I usually don't like the pairing of marble bs with granite, but I think this one could work. It was a really good idea.

I like what postitano did behind her range too, but she had more wall space because she had a slide in range without the piece that comes up in the back like yours. I think if the range extends above the counter and/or the space is small it looks better if the backsplash recieves no special treatment in that area.JMO. Plus tile design centered now may be off if you need a new range in the future.

I'm so intrigued by this beadboard tile; so unique. I've never seen it before. Can't find anything on how long the tiles are though. Do they have to be stacked on top of each other for length and then you end up with a horizontal seam or grout line?? They look great in this hallway pic.

The beadboard tile I linked above (I'll link it again below) is 20" long. The only place that may need a seam is above the range, but since you have the back on your range you can probably avoid that.

I like the sunflower mosaic EAM posted, but I think it's too busy and too blue for your granite. That photo doesn't show the true color very well.

island, I agree with you. I came to that realization today that I don't have the room for any special treatment behind the range since it has a back to it and there will be a vent hood going in so there is just not that much space available. I was trying to figure out how to get a center medallion of a cat! I know, too taste specific. DH suggested a piece of our granite but enough of that. So today I am trying to determine since the hood is not yet installed how much in height I really need behind the stove and if I can get away with simply raising the pieces behind the stove rather than running behind the stove down to the counter to avoid a seam. I found three different web sites with this type of tile but no selection of just one tile in different heights, just 8x20, 12x24 or the wall height which might work if it is tall enough to allow me to cut it in half because most of the wall I would need 18 high (the space from the counter to the bottom of the wall cabs) except for behind the stove. Silly me, I never considered a grout line, I thought they were just glued to the wall and simply lined up vertically! I have a lot to learn and I have to do more research. And yes, it does look great in that hallway but you know what I thought of when I saw it, it would take DH just one drop of the vacuum to break a tile. Silly me . . I'm still stressed over this whole affair even though I have a working sink finally after 8 weeks and tonight I am making my first home cooked meal - ravioli and meatballs and garlic bread. :-)

mpagmom, your kitchen is SO BEAUTIFUL and I saw it today with those gorgeous tiles. What a calming space - I love it! That stove wall is a work of art and I do think the smaller tiles go great with the stove wall tiles. I hope you are enjoying your new space. Thank you for the link.

Yes, I am planning on going with the beadboard tile. DH is against subways (although I love them) and I couldn't talk him in to an exposed brick look. I think the plainer backsplash would be very complementary to the granite.

I can add more color with window valances or countertop accessories and an area rug.

I noticed in SusieQ's beautiful kitchen that there is no top or bottom to the tile but you can buy "caps" or finishing ends on the tile web sites. Does anyone think that is necessary? Probably a picture of my stove wall would help.
