We bought small soapstone slabs cut to width directly from the quarry (Alberene). Cost about $1300 for about 30sqft. That included delivery. I still need to cut to width, join, and do the edging (apparently pretty easy with a router, circ saw, and diamond blade).

It would have been around $3k for the same size done from a large slab fabricator.

We are in central NJ, and got our Belvedere soapstone from M. Tex in Hackensack (who would give NYC the same prices I would imagine since we're in the same vicinity). Anyway, we paid aproximately $4k for 44 sq. feet of countertop. This was cheaper than the granite we had like, something called Viking Black, from Marble.com...which would have come in at around $7k.

I'm up in New England and prices are similar to NYC. I budgeted about $100/sqft for soapstone (includes material/fabrication/delivery/taxes). Soapstone tends to be on the higher end of the pricing scheme for counter top material, so most granites will be less than that. I think I ended up paying under $90/sqft for my soapstone.

If you're pricing by square foot, I think ours was around $78 per square foot.

In Ohio, it just depends. You can get some granites for $60 sq ft, and of course upwards of that, depending on what you choose. We have been quoted from a few places for soaptone, which is hard to come by here, and will pay around $90-$100 sq ft for it to be fabricated and installed.

Ours came in at $100/sq. ft. installed.

Our Barroca soapstone was 'recycled' - IE partial slabs from M Tex.

Price was $15/ft for the material, $9/ft for the 'cut to size'. $250 for delivery (approx. 100 miles).

Caveat was that we needed to buy the entire partial slabs and ended up with enough left-over for another countertop section in the to-be-built sunporch/pantry. The cut to size means that they cut rectangles to our specs, I did the sink cut-out and all additionally required cuts.

This countertop was installed two days ago, 9-28. We paid $1440.00 for 30 sq ft, including installation, the undermount sink, and installing the sink on site. Without the sink, $1240.00

Is the Belgian granite what Ina Garten uses in her kitchen? If so, I remember a thread a while back talking about that. Apparently it etches very easily and is soft. It's a limestone after all. I would not use limestone in a kitchen with so many acidic liquids around. I am, however, using a limestone in my master bath and using Carrara in my kitchen so etching tolerance is fairly high already. Still, be sure you're prepared for what the Belgian will do. It sure is a beauty of a stone!

We spent about 50 dollars a square foot for honed black pearl. This included all cut outs and installation. Black Pearl is one of the least expensive granites. We were also considering soapstone for a long time. Our soapstone quotes were all 79 to 89 dollars a square foot.

In SW Ohio, our soapstone counters were installed on Tuesday. Price was $80/sq foot installed. There was an additional for delivery and for the custom soapstone sink.

Cobra soapstone from M. Tex delivered to So Cal. Total including shipping, material, fabrication, install, and three sink cutouts was about $56/sqft.

I got a quote from Bucks County Soapstone for $95 sq. ft.

Like East Falls, went with clearance DIY soapstone slabs from M. Teix. for $15/sq. ft., plus about $10 /sq. ft. for delivery and $50 for epoxy. My slabs did not require cutting, so no cutting charge.

You'd cry if I told you what we spent on our quartzite. Basically, the cost of our slab was more than my entire initial starting budget. Long story short: We fell in love with the stone. It became the inspiration for the entire space. We reworked the entire budget to make it work (yes, the total dollar output increased exponentially). We kept the old appliances, kept plumbing where it was, gave up additional square footage, didn't move any walls, & put off getting new vehicles for a while. Amazing that we pulled it off & even more amazing that we don't reqret it.

We're on Long Island.
Our countertops are "Blue In The Night" granite.
Our total cost for 3 separate L-shaped pieces of countertop, including ogee edge and sink and soap dispenser cut outs, was $3000 for 46 SqFt.

I paid exactly 2K for 30 sf of minas soapstone slab from dorado, fab/install from Central N.E. Soapstone Fabricators. I think that's about 66 per sf.

I'm paying close to $135 a foot and that's with a 20% discount on the stone.

We paid somewhere in the neighorhood of $70 sf installed with sink cutout and runnels extra for our Belvedere soapstone. Very good pricing for our Los Angeles area and excellent fabrication.

I purchased Belvedere Soapstone from M.Tex in Denver at their 10% off sale and paid approximately $43/sq. foot for cut to size slabs with DIY install. I then added the runnels ($280) plus shipping to Oregon ($290), so overall, adding the 'extras', it came to $69 a square foot.

72 square feet of Ivory Silk granite with all fabrication, upgraded edge to ogee, 15 year sealer, cutouts and installation $4600 in Georgia metro area.

We paid $3345 for 46.6 sq ft of 3 cm Kashmir Gold. We chose an eased edge and a lifetime sealer ($4 psf), plus we had the one cutout for the sink and 3 holes for faucet, etc. We live in So. CA.

When we were shopping for Steel Gray granite, different distributors varied from $3300 to $4200 for our 58 sqft of counter. No special edges, but cutout charges on sink, slide-in range, and peninsula 12" radius corner all varied; as well as "free sink", "free edge profile upgrade" offers on top of whatever the base price was. Our final choice installer was about $3600 after tax, or $62/sf, though the nominal square foot charge was $49.

Lynn2006, the granite is called Venetian Pearl, and I believe it is from Brazil. We're in the central Ky area. Our fabricators were having a sale at the time.
