Comments (7)junkie - I gave you my learned opinion before you called me uptight. FACTS: They are more complicated than an airswitch They are more expensive They don't fill a need that some other product doesn't already address. Having something different appeals to a lot of people and the F.O. switch qualifies here. People who want what you don't have and want it first usually don't give a hoot about the install or reliability details. They get it and if doesn't work or last they get something else. If you need a bit more sureity in your life , play the percentages and go with the proven product or service. This is what I said to begin with. Oh, what if I want to run my disposal longer than the timer allows for with the F.O. module? It's not variable you know! You'll need another part if you want to retrofit it in an existing hole and I'm sure there have been/will be counter fabricators that mis-drill the hole for the thing because of a mis-communication and the non typical hole size. Anyhooo - at a hundred bucks it's not going to break anyone's wallet so if you like it get it and don't worry if it's better faster sexier or more reliable....See Moredisposal switch button in counter vs. wall switch
Comments (12)Like hest88, mine is an air switch. Press to turn on and off. In 3 months I haven't found a downside. It is so much more convenient. Before, I had to close the DW and reach clear across a counter to flip the switch. A friend says hers is one of her favorite features of her kitchen remodel. It was easy to install and not that expensive....See MoreElectrician here now - need quick advice please re. air switch...
Comments (6)Dianelouse - thank you - that was it! In the end I went for a boring ol' old fashioned light switch type, but that's cause my counter top has absolutely no holes in it other than the sink hole and I thought it seemed a shame to change that plan. I never minded light stitch kinds though apparently people do. The air switch would have been fun and cool but I just can't justify it I don't think. Too bad I'm told the air switch in the wall wouldn't be a big hit (wouldn't work as well). I wouldn't have minded it nestled in the subway tile! Alwaysfixin, thank you for your help as well and taking the time to write that out for me! :)...See Moredisposal/air switch question
Comments (3)Pretty much all air switches work with any disposer. They usually consist of a module you plug into the wall and the switch and tubing. You then plug the disposal into the module rather than directly into the wall. You can see how this would work regardless of the model (but not a batch feed, of course). I looked a little on the plumbingsupply.com site and can't find an air switch involving fiber optics but as long as it works like most others you should be fine. I don't think 1hp is necessarily overkill. It may or may not be necessary depending on how your family uses the disposer. If you like the price and product I don't think the fact that its 1HP would be a reason not to get it..... I will say that our ISE Evolution Compact is far and away the quietest disposal I have ever heard or used and I recommend them to anyone looking for a disposal....See Morepaul_ma
