My tile contractor, who lives next door, says that he much prefers 4x4. He feels that the 6x6 is just not the right scale. He has also been installing quite a bit of subway tile lately. These are just his opinions, but I thought I'd pass them along. I had a designer tell me to go 12x12 as well, but I agree, I don't care for the look. His theroy was that when you do 4x4 of 6x6 in the field tile, it is hard to differentiate in the focal point behind the range if you want to do something different there. With 12x12, you basically get one tile, then two pieces in a normal back splash. I guess I am going 4x4.

Well, I went to the tile stores again yesterday. I brought home a few more samples. I also found a blog called tile tramp (tiletramp@gmail.com). She does free on-line consultations. All you do is send her a picture and what your looking for. Anyway, I included what she thought would look good in my kitchen. (They did not have that particular sample at my store-its kind of swirly). She also suggested the one that I have already had at home (Walker Zanger Hollywood). So, I brought that home again ungrouted. I think the dark grout in the first sample was really throwing me. (It is the tile in the middle). The tile on the left would have to be a different marble but I thought I might as well try it. Lastly, the one on the right is called interlocking circles from mission stone tile. My concern with that is that the circles are going to be 18 inches in diameter when it is all done. (My dimensions are about 32 x 60). The picture with one sample in it is marble with clear glass by artistic. Any thoughts? Monday is decision day. I feel like I have seen it all at this point. The sink is custom made, it was done from the same marble as our marble slabs so it matches :) They did a beautiful job with it too, we're very happy! beekeeperswife, I assume you are referring to the mirrored cabinet here since the glass cabinets are not in that picture? All of the cabinets in my kitchen are full overlay. BUT, we did feet around the fridge cabinet and a border so it sort of looks inset even though it is not. Here are some better pictures of it, along w/ an example of the inset cabs they did for us in the bath so you can see both. The toe kick isn't on here- we're having them make the toe kicks out of the wood from the wood floors so the toe kick disappears and gives the feel of floating furniture (yup, Dutch Wood can do that, they are amazing!) (They did the whole bathroom here of course, including the mirror- and the top drawers on the right are actually one big drawer w/ plug outlet inside, but they magically made it look like two).
