Should we re-do our pantry?

We have a built in pantry closet that we get a lot of use out of. However, it's got a few flaws. First, imagine a small coat closet with shelves, and that's what we've got. It's a few feet deep and 4 feet (or so) wide, with a door-sized opening.

Photo is below...it's the bi-fold door in the upper right hand side of photo. Yellow broom handle is leaning up against it.

Flaws:

1 - ugly bifold door that we NEVER shut because it's hard to easily close

2 - the bifold door blocks a good portion of the right side of the pantry shelves when the door is open, so the right side of the pantry hides a LOT of food

3 - shelves are a bit too deep for easy viewing of goods, but nice for storing big pots/pans/platters

4 - it's dark! you can't see anything

5 - the top shelf is hard to access. It sort of lines up with the top of the door opening, making it difficult to get things on/off the top shelf.

6 - the shelves are much wider than the door opening, therefore the space to the left and right of opening is quite hidden & hard to access.

We're looking at doing a remodel in early 2010. Would you pull this out entirely and re-do it, making it a little more functional (we don't have space for anything larger though) Or would you pull this out and put pantry cabinets with sliding shelves, etc?
