Help me decorate my bedroom.

I'd like to redecorate my room but I'm at a loss. I bought this house four years ago. While I loved the layout of the home I really didn't like anything else. I knew the changes were cosmetic but didn't realize how much things would cost so it's taking me a bit of time to make changes. I'm ready to have a nice, cozy, sophisticated bedroom. I really like the designs Candice Olsen does.

My master bathroom has pink tile (think late 60's pink)and the fixtures in the bathroom are nickel. My bedroom furniture is Cherry and the hardwood floors are what I believe to be oak. I absolutely hate the pink and burgundy combination.

I'm willing to change the wall color, add carpeting or keep the hardwood floor, change the window coverings, etc. but I have no idea of where to start in this room. Any ideas?

we had that pink tile in the downstairs powder room of our old house and it had a little pink checker board pattern floor tile. We did a "remodel" of the bathroom for about $1000. I removed the old toilet, had a guy install new floor tile over existing - the tile was in great shape so he went right over it. That was $400. I had a guy come in and do the spray finish over the pink tile - that was another $400. It was really easy for him since toilet was still gone from the floor guy being there. Then a new toilet was $200.

I did the spray stuff in white. The existing sink was white. The new toilet was white. I painted the walls above in light blue.

I wish I could fine a before picture!

The room is approx. 11' x 12', has (SW) corner windows and a small attached bath, which is tiled in the original 50s grey/burgundy. I think the vanillin is too yellow (a) for my liking, (b) for the quilt that my MIL kindly made for us and (c) to tie into the bathroom color scheme. The bed frame will stay. The cherry dresser, bookcase & nightstand--while I love them--were not purchased for that bed and do not work with it. I hope to replace them with more simply styled furniture. The blinds are a problem from the exterior viewpoint also, and will either be lined in an off-white or replaced entirely with sheers or some other off-white treatment. We took out the old white mini blinds and prefer not to go that route again (the cats loved bending them). I'm viewing the quilt as my fall/winter bedcover, and would love to get new, lighter coverings for spring/summer. I need help in identifying a wall color that could work with that quilt, contrast/coordinate nicely with the bed, and provide a nice backdrop for new white/patterned bedcoverings. This is the view from the hall door. The wall on the left is 11' The bed runs parallel to the 12' stretch And here's the bathroom Just to complicate matters :-) we may move to an adjacent room that is longer but also has a (SE) corner window set up. I'd love to discuss layout, but the color issue is most pressing right now. Thanks for any help!

We love mountain modern homes, especially bedrooms. The white duvet is perfect with the dark walls and Pendleton blanket; adding lighting pieces through bedding and artwork will help brighten the space and provide contrast for the walls. As far as art for the room goes, you can keep it neutral to let the blanket shine or add more dimension and color to balance the blanket. In this room, we added art that was more colorful than the rest of the room, but because it stands alone, it shines: A more subtle and modern option: You can also add visually interesting light fixtures, especially any that will pop against the darker paint of your room: The colors and textures you have here are already a beautiful starting point. Good luck adding those finishing touches!

I do think you have too much that matches. For art, I'd get what you love and not worry about whether it's the same size or "coordinates" or anything else. You might do a small gallery wall on one side (including one or two 3-dimensional pieces), and a large image (canvas or framed) on the other. But whatever you decide, don't go out and look for "art." Look for what you love; maybe you already have it! I'd replace at least one of the lamps with something different since the nightstands appear to be the same. (Again, something you love.) If it's you and your partner you can each decorate or keep on your nightstand what works for you be it a plant, pictures, water pitcher, books, reading glasses, etc. These should be your individual islands that work for you and less a "decorating surface." If the colors work for you, great! But I find them dull and uninteresting. (That said, I despise browns and beiges and grays so take my advice for what it is worth.) What colors turn you on? Use some of them in wallpaper, paint, curtains, pillows, comforter.

The link below is bedrooms by Candice Olsen. How about using these as your inspiration. Find a room similar in shape to yours and try to duplicate it as much as you need. Of course you can add your own touch but it would give you a color palette to begin and then on to the drapes, bedding etc. If you have a camera and can post a picture of your bedroom that would help.
In addition to the link below you can also Google Candice Olsen's bedrooms and then click on images when the results show up and look at dozens of her rooms. Once you get an idea of what you like, you can ask here about colors, where to find items. etc.
