I instantly thought a large antique mirror over your headboard would look more balanced than the small picture you have. It is nice, but not in scale in that setting.
I'd move it to the spot the large picture currently is and find a new home for that.
I'd love to see a sconce, or a light on your nightstand.
I think your room itself is fine and your new chairs provide some panache to the space.

Rather than grey, would you consider an eggplant color for the walls? With that green and the grey tones, I think it would be stunning. Leave all the trim a warmer white to keep the room from feeling cold.

The pix over the nightstand is too large for the space, imo. I would find a new place for that, and then add a tall, brushed nickel lamp on the nightstand. Over the bed a trio of framed art pieces would work. The size of the one piece that is there is fine, but too small to be by itself.

No additional suggestions, but WHERE did you find the chairs? they are stunning!

I don't think you need any print over the bed. I think it's over kill and your beautiful bed makes a big enough statement.

As a matter of fact, my suggestion would be to group the current picture over the bed with the 2 smaller ones by the window and move them somewhere else so you have room for a drapery panel. You only need one panel. Hang it high with a thin drapery pole. Nothing to ornate. Keep it simple and calm.

Do you have the same print over the nightstand on the other side? I really like them and think they are the right size. Not sure what you are planning for lighting. I would use either pendants or wall mounted lighting.

Those chairs are just fabulous. How about using just one pillow in a patterned fabric within the same family as the chairs and place it between your 2 sets of pillows. Mix it up a little. I would also buy the European pillow cases that coordinate with your new green cover, if they are available. They are not just decorative. They do come in handy when reading in bed.

I think you could soften it a lot by having table lamps instead of ceiling lighting. I would try some lamps and a softer lighting scheme before I changed anything else.

Those chairs are fabulous. I think a good color for the walls would be that purpleish-grey color that you see in the chairs, but in a more muted shade so it doesn't darken your space too much. I agree with the others about the photo above the bed. I think moving it to the other wall with the two pictures would be nice.

I'm sorry I'm just getting back to my post. You guys are quick. The chairs came from a shop where I work. I saw the fabric in NC last year even before the chairs came in and immediately had to have it.

The pic over the nightstand is one of a matching pair. Honestly, the nightstands are probably too big as well (they fit with only inches to spare), but I love the slightly "off" scale. I hadn't given a thought at all to moving them..um (thinking to myself). What do you think? Ignore the utter and complete lack of accessorizing (embarrassing).

As far as lighting, I'm replacing the ceiling fan and have been looking for lamps. With what? I haven't decided. I spend way too much time looking! I do want to add these sconces to the wall opposite the bed. They're on the list, but it will be a few months. I love the finish.

The current paint is BM Hawthorne Beige (I think). It's a nice neutral, but too yellow for me. The fact that almost the entire house is that color is a big part of the problem. Color overkill (smile). The room at 18x14 is large enough to handle a dark color, but I waffle between wanting "warm and cozy" darker colors or "bright but calming" creams and whites with splashes of color. I'm too chicken for eggplant, but had tossed around navy.
Euros in color would add some personality to the bed. At the same time, I've wanted an all white bed for years. What about textured white Euros and accent pillows with the Ikat? I can get matching 20" square pillows.

I would place old-gold/"gliver" toned lamps on each night stand. Gliver is that tone between gold and silver.

I would leave the spot directly over the bed empty.

I could kind of see moulding-to-floor Ikat panels on the row of windows: I would consider painting out the area between those windows the trim color: treating the whole wall as a unit. The panels could be simple and if you could do one rod all the way across that would be great. The window next to the bed is odd-man-out and could be treated differently in this case. It doesn't have much room for a treatment.

A bedroom is one of those rooms that can carry a lot of fabric, and a lot of matching fabric.

Being that I'm not one for rules or trends I think that you should hang what you like above the bed.

My first thought was a sunburst mirror w/ a small mirror center. Most people are probably sick of that trend but I like the look so take it or leave it.

I really like Palimpsest's ideas about treating the wall of windows. I would also def. treat the wall portion the same color as the trim.

Something about the window wall seems not quite right. Like there is a disconnect. Maybe it is that the wall color is surrounded by the trim and does not connect to the rest of the wall (between the windows). I might consider painting that area between the windows the color of the trim? Just a thought. Or perhaps hanging panels off the windows so that only a little of the wall between shows? Maybe just enough to leave room for the wall sconces? Just not sure...

I see nothing wrong with a mirror above the headboard, but I do think the two large prints are not doing justice to the poster bed.
I would take everything down, finish accessorizing and then look at it again. Buy two large lamps to start with and I'd suggest looking for some that have a different shape than the bed posts.
If you don't need/want the ceiling fan, consider a chandelier in its place.

I think what the room lacks is a large rug under the foot of the bed and the chairs to tie everything together.

Brilliant idea about the window wall! I would never thought about painting that area like the trim. I have always hated the broken up look of that wall. I don't think I would want more Ikat on the panels though. I could find a companion print in green, taupe, and cream.
Lamps are always hard for me. I don't see many that I love. That's why I was so happy to have all the recessed lighting. I could procrastinate about lamps! I like the lamps you linked, but they're too retro modern. That's a great website though. Hopefully I can find something.
Starbursts mirrors are great, but not for me. I do have great convex mirror framed in gray wood in our living room.
That grey is gorgeous, but do you think a cream like BM Overcast could work on the walls and trim with the ceiling dark?
Would you do a print rug? The carpet is a thick pile twist.

Right away, I think I see an issue with the window wall. You have such massive moulding/panels on the top and bottom of the windows, but nothing on the sides. It looks like something is missing. I think you need to add much more weighty casing on the sides of the windows, and close down the painted sections between them.

Or, if you want window panels, then make a moulding cornice that runs the width of the wall, and mount curtain panels under them on either side of each window, just enough onto the windows to hide the lack of side casing, and bring some fabric to the wall to soften it.

For sure the art on either side of the bed is too large, and as was mentioned, takes away from the poster effect of the bed.

I am sort of over the sunburst mirrors in most cases. I think there are lots of great styles out there that would work if you really want a mirror there. I think this might be interesting, hung horizontally, to pick up on the oval in the ikat, plus some of the scrolly feel in the fabric.

I would not be afraid to do a darker wall color, whether an eggplant or a navy. You have a huge amount of white trim and window space, light flooring, so not a ton of wall space that will be dark.

Take a look at Martha Stewart's paint color Sharkey Gray.

I LOVE Les' idea of eggplant on the walls. It would look amazing with the green and better, I think, than a navy! I would also try to make that wall of windows look seamless.

I don't know what happens on the wall opposite the windows, but those large scale prints may live more happily over there rather than split up over the night stands.

I like the valance idea with panels between the windows.
I definitely vote for a rich eggplant on the walls, at least behind the bed. Paired with a nice large decorative mirror, it would really be "wow".

If you are nervous about a dark color like eggplant, then use that for the panels instead of the wall.

When I look at your room, I am reminded of something like this. I think it would be very soothing to have a tone on tone bedroom.

Thanks again for everyone's advice. Here are some immediate changes I want to make. Immediate means weeks, not days, but I am on a mission!
1. Move the oversize pics to the wall facing the windows.
2. Trim out and paint the window wall.
3. Finally find matching lamps for the nightstands. I have a couple of real contenders in mind.
4. Paint or wallpaper the bed wall in a deep, warm dramatic color.
5. Paint the remaining walls cool cream.
6. Find an area rug. There's a apple green and eggplant (there's that color again -smile) oushak I want to try.

Love the chairs. You have a gorgeous room to work with.
The two large prints over the night stands is what is making the area over the bed difficult to decorate with; they are creating an obvious "bare" spot. Once you move the prints to the other wall, put lights on the night stands, then you will know what to do over the bed.

I love your bed and nightstands and beautiful chairs and agree with you that the wall colors need to be changed. Since you like the green and white, my recommendation is to do what you want and go with light walls. IMO walls in BM Acadia Green or Pastel Green (a green that would go with the green in the wonderful chairs) and trim in white would be very white bedding. Would leave on the green throw you have on the bed now (I am thinking it is a throw � whatever leave it on). And go with the 20" square matching pillows to go on the bed. I would remove all pictures that are currently in the room. The last lamps that teacats linked are very nice and appear that they would be very complimentary. I believe this would be a very calming and stress relieving getaway for you similar to the picture palimpsest posted above. Wish I could Photoshop your picture.

Would not look for pictures to go in the room until all of the painting is finished. I definitely would not put any mirrors in the bedroom.

I made a few minor changes to the room. I moved the large prints to another wall, added an exisiting mirror above the bed, and finally found new lamps. I had chosen a wallpaper for behind the bed, but it's so calm right now. I think in the end, I'll just paint the entire room (including trim) a pale khaki. Still need a new chandelier and to find a rug for under the bed. Also, looking forward to trimming out the window wall next month.

I would pick two shades of gray and paint the wall behind the bed a deeper gray an the other walls a paler gray. That said , I would not paint the deeper wall a darker color---- just more saturated. I would take the throw pillows off those gorgeous chairs because they don't add a thing, you could not possibly improve on that print and the pillows look fussy. If you love those sconces (Ido!) take your cue from them for your overhead lighting and look for something interesting and cool. I am a fan of ikat fabric myself . . . Did DS's entire room in a green / cream ikat--- bedding, curtain panels, and used the reverse for a tailored bedskirt and to
upholster a club chair. I just love the depth of the design. . . Your chairs are stunning.

I think a a pale khaki would look great! Love the changes.

I love your lamps! (and the chairs, of course!) I think the best move you made was to relocate the big prints. The oversized nightstands you mentioned early on no longer look oversized.

I love those chairs! What a great room! I think you were going for a more modern look ....like Msroses pic's. I think the changed look is very traditional and "old world" looking. You have choices....it's just a matter of which look "you" prefer. Both looks are in style and stunning!

I love it now! Beautiful, simple, serene...with a nice punch from the chairs (which are to die for!). Agree, however, with Nicole that you need to decide on which look you prefer: modern or traditional/transitional. While you're deciding, though, you can totally enjoy what you have. I wouldn't change anything.

One last thought: I would be willing to take those chairs off your hands if you decide they just don't work for you ;)

I han't thought the room felt traditional or modern. The lamps are pretty outside my normal comfort zone, but I loved them immediately. I want the room to feel current and fairly young, but I am nearly 40. The poster bed pretty much dictates traditional though. In my dream room, I would have a trendy upholstered bed, but I would keep this one for when my tastes change again!
I am enjoying the room, even as I plan the next stages of the transformation. DH loves it, which is a first in our 16 years of marriage and 6 MBR! That has to count for something.

Interesting angc...I accidentally came upon your post of your chairs in searching for ikat fabric as I, too, just made a very impulsive purchase of the exact chairs you have....love, love, love these chairs and fabric! We share the same good taste. Now, my question to you is, do you know where I might purchase this exact same fabric at a reasonable price? I want a matching ottoman but cannot see paying more than I paid for the chair for the ottoman. I bought my chair as a floor sample at a fairly good price (still too expensive...but I love the chair); I, too, discovered the fabric prior to seeing the chair and just had to have it! Have you seen this fabric anywhere at a decent price? Just curious. Your room looks lovely, by the way.
