refinishing a butcher block counter top
Comments (1)Save the sanding particles and mix with a food safe/water proof glue. The mixture should be same as putty is. Then patch as you would with wood putty. A common solution furniture refinishers use....See MoreStain Butcher Block Kitchen Countertop/Cutting Board?
Comments (2)Recommendations? Don't do it. If you don't sand out all of the existing scratches very thoroughly before staining, then more pigment will lodge inextricably in the remaining scratches. This will look bad. If you manage to refinish the counter successfully and then start using it as a cutting board, you will soon cut through the stained wood in places. This will also look bad. Even setting food safety aside, a cutting board is just the wrong place for stain....See MoreWood/butcher block countertops around range? Please advise!
Comments (3)Thanks for your responses. I'm not worried--but my cabinet/countertop maker is worried--about the countertops being a fire hazard. I know the Viking/Wolf ranges put out a lot of heat, but I cant imagine the flame *touching* the countertop. He acted like it's a crazy idea, but I see it so often...even a pic in some marketing piece for GE Profile appliances! Maybe there's extra trim I can get for around the range to give a little more space between the gas burners and the countertop? As far as the heat cracking/damaging the wood countertop, I read that the cooktop has to be 8" away from the joints. I Googled it, but am still not sure what a joint is. Can anyone explain? This is a very small countertop area...about 18-20" on either side of the range. Not sure if that means no joints or what. Thanks so much....See MoreOld oak barn floors and american cherry butcher block counters. Help!
Comments (4)Easiest solution, paint the cabinets. The floor and countertop will be separated and the clashing will be less noticeable. Be thankful that your husband is interested enough to select a countertop. Go with his selection. His feelings matter. My precious husband is worth much more to me than any house or decorator item. We do lots of projects together. There are hundreds of ways to do things if you have an open mind and a tolerant heart. If the floor still clashes, buy some throw rugs. I love throw rugs! They keep dirt from getting tracked through the house and make it easier to keep the house clean....See Morelazy_gardens
