Now most of..wait..all of my house is painted all in warm tones (reds, dijon, tans etc) would it look unuasual if I have a cool color in one room or should I stick with warm tones to ensure 'flow' of color in the house?

No no no....it will be fine. In fact, mixing warm and cool, light and dark is all good. The eye wants variety!

I would disagree and ask what color the adjoining rooms are. One of the worst decorating mistakes that can be made is to forget harmoney in tone and texture from room to room. I would not go blue in a home filled with orange, bronze, amber, etc. Unless there is a very well planned transition space to help with the flow.

And I also can sympathize with your quest for a perfect bedroom color using those autumn colors....they're my favorite as well, but a glowing pumpkin can be a bit much.

Mind you the base color for my bronze room is pumpkin :) With lots of gold and bronze on top:

I wish they would photograph better. I'm hoping if and when we finish this danged house, that the magazine photographer will do a better job of showing their richness. And then if my lazy seamstress (me) would finish our bronze and black silk curtains...well it might be a very romantic room. :) We do love the room. I think a bedroom should be rich and luxurious...so it insires ummm stuff :oP heh heh

Here's a quick peek at part of my kitchen wall. Notice the bronze-y cherry cabinet, the amber tile, the mustard paint and the very pale blue tile. There is also pale iridescent white tile in the mix. Warm and cool, light and dark. It may not be for everyone, but I won a prize from Dupont for this kitchen.

I will say in response to Igloo that my hallway is painted in BM Dijon which consists of my lower foyer, staircase and upper hallway ajoining to my room, livingroom is red and tan and my bathroom is in Spanish Chestnut which is a dark browny burnt orange (gorgeous color). So yes very warm tones throughout.

I should post a picture of the orange in my room right now....it would give you all a good laugh and *gasp*. LOL

Hi FW!!! No -- that comforter and shams are the very old Ralph Lauren "Sussex Gardens" -- found the comforter at an outlet store AND bought the shams from EBay! It has lasted and lasted -- even with cats and drycleaning etc!

As for adjoining colors -- our dining room WAS dark gold -- and now it is a dark sage/olive green! Our one-and-only living room is in Dove White; our guest room is in dark chocolate and the office is in olive. ((the bathrooms are in basic white LOL!))

So the bedroom is the only stand-alone paler color! But it works in the mix because I add accent colors from the other rooms. I do like a nice flow of color in this small house because the doors are open -- and visually -- the flow adds a bit of visual space!

Teacats has the right idea....if you pull the colors along from room to room, that's what allows you to have contrasts that still feel harmonious. Take the Dijon (lovely color, btw) and use it as an accent in a Woodlawn Blue bedroom, and you're good to go. And you add much-needed variety.

Yes, please post a picture of your orange room. My daughter wants to paint her room BM Rio Rancho Clay. We found the name of the paint from a Better Homes picture of a bedroom, and that's the paint name they gave. In the picture, the room looks like a lovely apricot, and that's the look she and I like. However, I bought sample paint and painted a little on the wall, and am afraid it will look way too pumpkinish. Especially since she has some black furniture and all I can think of is Halloween.
One thought is to put up some type of wainscoting for the bottom half to break up all that orange color.
Anyone else have any color ideas for a more apricot/tangerine color?

I am playing with Glowing Apricot right now...maybe my studio, maybe a powder room. Not sure yet. In the dark, windowless powder room, it seems to have its own light source. But, it is still soft.

I just had my bedroom painted Vanilla Custard by Behr and the waincoting painted a light blue by Ralph Lauren. I can't remember the name of the RL paint to save my life.
I don't have things put back into the room in this picture. No pictures, no mirrors, no nothing. But I like the color actually.

In our last home, I wanted a darker rust color in the master bedroom. We ended up using a Ralph Lauren suede paint in that shade.

It ended up looking great. The designer we had to do our window treatments, freaked out when she saw the room and said she just loved it. The suede finish dulled the color down so it didn't scream orange but had a real depth to it.

It was my favorite room.

Hummm RL - Suede - will check that out..curious. Sounds nice.

I am wondering perhaps a really deep tan I should consider then acsent with oranges and reds to flow with the house? I like the swatch of Norwester Tan BM.
No matter the color I want it mid point - not too dark---not too light.

Everytime I see your bed I kick myself for not getting the 4-poster bed at the store I worked out before it closed. I always get the same heart flutter everytime I see your rm. I like the new paint job BTW.

If I painted a bedroom blue I'd try this color. It is F&B Green Bluee (or is it Blue Green?). I had it colormatched (a pretty close match but still not dead on) and painted my DR that color. I get so many compliments on it. It seems on the warmer side of blue (I've always found cool blue just a bit too jarring for me) and it looks so amazing w/ every tone of wood that I've put against it. It's relaxing yet warm.

I'm going to check out that suede paint, Parma. That sounds VERY interesting. I have a small powder room with NO windows, and want something that makes a statement in that room. With an angled ceiling, I'm just not seeing a great wallpaper as an option. Glad you mentioned your suede.

I'm embarassed to say it but, you've probably seen it before but don't recognized it. Since last yr. at this time this is the 4th color.

Totally, Suede is a finish that doesn't take to scuffing well. While I have heard of it used in a bathroom, some have put some kind of sealer over it. Once on the paint forum, someone did say they used it au natural with no ill effects, but I'd be careful.

This is BM October Mist. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but I agree with others, a green-ish gray is very soothing, so good for a bedroom IMO. (Pardon the hole in the ceiling, we moved the previous light wiring to get the ceiling fan installed over the bed.)

amy, I like that F&B color...it reminds me of a garden.

ttodd - what paint did you have that color matched in? Do you have the formula? It's beautiful, but I've never seen farrow & ball paint around here - I wouldn't know where to go get the chip. Thanks!

This is from our old house but it is my all-time favorite bedroom color. It is a DKC (Donald Kaufman) paint. I don't remember the number but I can find it if you want it. It is a grayish-lavender that changes with the light, like all Kaufman paint.

(We moved into a house that had wallpaper in the bedroom so I put this bedroom paint into the living room. It's beautiful there too.)

I've done suade a time or two. Be sure to buy the sealer (or just use two coats of matte varnish). If you don't, the silica pellets used to make the suade will just fall off with every tiny brush of a pant leg, etc. If it's sealed correctly...it will last a lifetime :)

My family room is Glowing Apricot. I love the color, and it just visually warms up the room. It would work nicely in a bedroom.
My bedroom, on the other hand, is Alphano beige, and it goes very well with our dark wood furniture.
While we have several colors throughout the walls of our house, there is an overall palette, so that we can take furniture from one room and put it in another, and the furniture will fit it.

I would love to see photos of Glowing Apricot! Pretty pleeeease?

I'm 99% sure it was color matched in a Lowes brand. I'll go to the basement and double check then post the formula. I'm not a fan of blue in the least but I love this color so much that I'm going to use it along w/ BM Baby Turtle in our next house.

I will however make the trek to NJ to get the actual FB (or order it if I can) to get the real thing. I can't imagine how pretty the real color is!

I also prefer warm colors throughout the house. Can't find my camera battery charger, so I don't have any photos. But my bedroom is a caramel color, and it's the only paint color in the house that turned out exactly as I'd planned. It is Benjamin Moore Boardwalk; the ceilings are a lighter shade on the same strip, BM fennel seed, trim is white.

I change my bedding seasonally and whenever the mood hits. With that color wall paint I"ve had duvte covers & comforters that are brown and gold, aqua & gold, red, and currently chocolate, orange, and rust. The wall color would also work very well with olive bedding (in fact that's what I was trying to find before I finally got tired of searching and bought the chocolate orange and rust comforter). I love the color; it's like a kraft caramel but a little lighter! (Note--I have 4 windows in the bedroom so boardwalk looks about the same in the MBR as Fennel Seed looks in the darker hallway outside the bedroom.

newdawn~ I forgot to mention that I LOVE your upper wall color. That is a gorgeous neutral color. What a beautiful bedroom!!

Parma and igloo~ Thanks for the tips on the suede. Parma, do you have a photo you could share of your suede? I'd love to see it applied. Our HD is about 30 min's away, so I probably won't make it there until after the holiday's. And I'm NOT good at waiting. LOL! :o)

Suero, is Alphano Beige really that purple? Just curious.

It must be your monitor. On mine it looks more grayish. If you were to take the color and convert it to RGB, on my monitor the red component is 207, the green is 194 and the blue is 182. So, it's more brown (red and green) than purple (red and blue).

Totally, I don't have any pictures from the MB in our last house. I had finished decorating, didn't have photobucket and was mostly into cooking and gardening.

I saved the old real estate listing from it but the pictures were deleted.

ttodd: I love Blue Green. I was going to paint Blue Green in my laundry room but because there wasn't enough light, the color came out more green than blue. So I added a bit of Borrowed Light into it and the color is just perfect!

I don't know what room it is that you have displayed on here before. But it is the room with the big white dresser with your wedding picture on it on hung above. I think it is so good looking. And if I had to vote on best rooms on gardenweb. You would have my vote, it is stunning.

Well I thought I would post pictures of my finally finished master BDR. I went with Wilmington Tan and it is a beautiful color no doubt.

I really did love the Aura paint (although not the price) but it was an excellent paint.

I must have a low color threshhold since I have only two rooms with color and that seems enough for me. The dining room is painted a red that tends toward rust and the front room (we have a room instead of a foyer) is a soft green. The other five rooms and the kitchen and three bathrooms are painted a soft off-white and I find that very relaxing and frankly have no desire to have any more colored rooms. We have a great deal of art on the walls and the colors I have all work extremely well with the art, which is mostly drawings and oil paintings with a few prints. It also gives me the opportunity to have great variety in my decor and area rugs. My master bedroom has three very different seasonal bed and drape treatments and it all works equally well with the cream. To each his own, I say.

Ingrid - I have to agree w/ you. Downstairs I found that 2 rms. is about as much color as I want - I like that my eye settles on the off white central hall but then I have a pop of blue on the ceiling in the hall.

RH Atmosphere Blue walls and ceiling, mixed in BM paint. It's a smoky blue. Our furniture is an extremely dark cherry tone. Looks awesome with the dark furniture. Crystal column lamps from RH. Picture frames will be tortoise shell to pull in the tortoise shell finish side tables. I'll also use some crystal accents. It's restful and refreshingly cool. I have golds and rusts throughout the house, but with my hot flashes, I craved a cool color for the bedroom. Baseboards are BM White Dove. Same color on crown to come. Matelasse coverlet in a soft blue that's just a hair lighter than the walls. Silk-ish draperies in a slightly darker blue. This is my summer look, although I never managed to get my winter look together this year. NEXT winter, I will have reds and golds in a comforter and draperies.

No picture, but our bedroom has light rose on the wall, light multi-colored floral bedspread and shams. It mixes well with the heavy oak bed, dresser with doors, and my grandmothers old cedar chest.

I also have a pink princess telephone on my side of the bed. LOL. Love it!

My bedrooms are BM Van Alen green. Very soothing and easy on the eyes. I painted my ceiling the same color also. I'll try to post photos tomorrow. My camera isn't with me now. I painted my DR Palladian Blue. It's also very pretty and easy on the eyes. I like colors that are restful.

Lots of very pretty rooms!

This room isn't 100% done, and I've already rearranged it entirely, but I love this color. In fact it's the same color I had in the MBr from our old house- Behr Fountainspout with Ultra Pure White trim. The ceiling color I forgot- it's actually light grey-blue.

here's the BM van alen green. The room is no where near finished but you can see the wall color. The bathroom off the bedroom is a warm yellow. Downstairs my living room is BM Windham Cream (which is a soft yellow) and my DR is BM Palladian Blue. It looks pretty, to me, having the warm and cool/neutral colors side by side.

anyway here's the green:

During the course of our marriage, we've lived in five different homes and the master bedroom in three of them was blue. All shades very similar to what we currently have. this is SW Rain with SW Topsail on the ceiling.
