Calling all Franke Orca sink owners
Comments (27)I have had an Orca sink for 6 years. The faucet is placed similarly to hsw's. The soap dispenser is on the right side. We also have a Franke faucet. Franke backs their products 100%. Great customer service. They sent us a new faucet head without question when the piece that switches from spray to full broke. No questions asked. I have the full and 1/2 grids. They did not have non coated when we bought. I do have the cutting board which comes in very handy. We did not do a bump out but we had to have part of the cabinet cut to fit it since it was being placed in a slightly smaller cabinet then recommended. My one must haves was to have the largest sink I could fit in my galley kitchen. Mission accomplished....See MoreFranke Orca Sink?
Comments (34)Background: We're doing a kitchen remodel and need to make some sink decisions. I loved the Franke Orca when I saw it because it seemed really well made and I loved the grid because I thought it will very useful for draining pasta or wash/dry vegetables & fruits. The price seemed steep. In the meanwhile a friend suggested Blanco Silgranit. I liked that too, however I could find good accessories for draining washed vegetables (didn't like the basket). So I'm thinking of going with the Orca even though it is almost double the price. My questions - 1) With the Orca sink, if I use the grid on the right, where should the soap dispenser be. In the pictures and displays I've seen, it is on the right side. But if I'm using the right side shelf, should the soap dispenser be on the left? Because if the soap is the right I'll be wetting the things that are draining/drying on the right shelf? Can people who are using the sink please comment on where you think the soap dispenser should be? 2. Should I get the bottom grid as well? Do you find it useful or is it actually not needed? 3. Any thoughts on Franke Orca Vs. Blanco Silgranit? Thanks much....See MoreHelp - can't decide on sink. Franke Orca vs Rohl Allia
Comments (6)I did notice in the photos of the Oceana that the integrated shelf does not appear to wrap around the entire sink like the Orca does. It looks in the photo that the shelf is across the back and the front. If that is the case, it just might be that the shelves are not as stable. The grid set on the shelf of Orca stays in place perfectly and feels very stable. The grids are weighty and good quality. By the way the grids come in "coated" (with a soft vinyl) and "non-coated" simply stainless. Many on this forum suggested the non-coated, which I got. I have often used mine to set a hot pot off the stove, the coated wouldn't have done well in that situation. If you do a internet search with the terms: Orca Gardenweb you can see many of the discussions about the Orca. Here is an example: Orca Thread...See MoreWhich side for drainboard with Franke Orca sink?
Comments (1)I do not have an Orca- but I am having similar kitchen design worries as you! It would feel more natural to me to have the dishwasher on the RH side of the sink, because that leaves the space clear of dirty dishes between the sink and the cooker- just in case you have to drain a heavy pan of pasta for example. Then I would stack the dirties from the table over the dishwasher, and fill the DW by standing in front of the RH sink bowl. I would pre-rinse into the RH bowl. I see your concern about the groovey dish drainer being on the RH side in that case. It would be stacked up with dirty dishes!...See Moresam_b
