furniture placement in small room with high ceilings

We have a room in our house that measures 14'x16' with flat ceilings that are 11' high. There is floor to ceiling glass on three sides of the room and the fourth side opens into the dining room. I'd really like to put the furniture in the center of the room - possibly three curvy chairs around a round ottoman - the rest of the space will have plants. Will putting the furniture in the center of the room make the room look both smaller and higher? Should we take the chairs and place them angled in the corners instead with rectangular ottomons - my husband and I have been deliberating over this for months and we need to get furniture in there. Our house is really contemporary - this is just a sitting room that can be seen from the dining and living rooms - it's kind of like a loft space. The dining room is 8' flat and the living room is valted up to a loft - so the heights are different - that's what separates the rooms, along with different turns and angles (if this makes sense). Anyway, I just want this glass room to look classy and not just like a glassed in porch. There are places with drywall to hang some photos and a space to have a tall cabinet with books and some of my pottery. I want to do a frieze rug and textured clean-lined furniture. I'm probably getting ahead of myself - sorry - I just don't want the furniture in the center to make the room look even smaller or accentuate the high ceiling (which was my husband's idea - I wanted it no higher than 9 1/2 to 10 - but he won out and right now I'm a bit uncomfortable in it. At the same time, I don't know how all the furniture pushed against the walls will look either. Please help me - anyone out there have experience with this - obviously, proportion and scale just aren't my thing. Thanks.

Seems to me that with this being off the DR, it could serve as a place to have drinks before dinner or even dessert afterwards if you were entertaining. I am not sure I see the either/or proposition of everything clumped in the middle OR everything stuck in the corners.

Without pix or a layout, it is hard to say for sure, but I would think a pair of chairs with a table between them, and perhaps an ottoman to share, could be placed by one window wall. You could then have a curved-back loveseat or small couch opposite that, floating in the room a bit, with a cocktail table in front of it, something perhaps with a glass top and iron legs to not take up a lot of visual space. Ideally I would think that you would want the entry to the DR open, not have it blocked by the loveseat, so the layout would work around that.

I would also think about some type of chandelier in the center of the space, hanging down fairly low (maybe at about 7 -8 feet) to bring the ceiling down a bit.

Go to a thrift shop and look for an attractive long, skinny leaning mirror, which will reflect light from your window and visually expand the room that way. Going by suggestions made in your other post, you hopefully will have gotten new bedding, moved the art lower, so that a mirror will reflect those updates. Also consider a swag lamp with white cord hanging over the bed--something cloudlike from Ikea like this to take advantage of your tall ceiling but bring it down a bit. Loft beds with study/desk underneath work well in small bedrooms. BUT! Need detailed actual room size - ie: floor plan - to help you. Knowing your son's age would also help.

I do think a dark color is nice for a media room. Consider the cocoa brown from the bottom of your art as a good neutral. Then pop the red, orange and white around as your accent colors with throws, pillows. Does your seating recline? Can the curio find another home? I'd like to see the sofa on the red wall and the chair angled in the corner of the current TV wall. A glare free TV on the wall opposite the window might be larger. Your shades look to be close to black outs, but if not, you might add inside mounted, skinny solar shades under them. Another option is to put the curio where the TV is, sofa at window, TV on red wall and chair angled where sofa is now.

Hi! I have a living room challenge if anyone wants to accept! Our room is just under 13’ by 18’ but has two large doorways, one standard door, a large radiator and a fireplace! To date we’ve just had one large sofa (101”) against one wall but we’d really like to add more seating - possibly a small L shaped sectional. Open to other ideas? Things to note-photo shows sofa spun into the middle as we wanted to see how it felt to walk into the room and face the back of it. Also we are trying to get rid of radiator but not an easy answer given steam heating system. Thanks in advance!
