How to do built in bookshelves

We have a small book/reading nook in my daughter's room. The idea was to do a floor ceiling bookshelf on one wall that is 6ft wide by 9ft tall. We were thinking to not make it too deep.. More for paperback books than wide books. Is 9inches deep enough? What is a cheap way to do this? I would like to be able to adjust the shelves. Are there ready to assemble options that come with the holes drilled and where we can select the length of boards etc? Is it too wide to do a single shelf? I really do not want the shelves to sag. Should we consider dividers that make it into cubbies that are about 2ft wide? Lastly, is it a bad idea to do the shelves to the ceiling? Should we do it just to 6ft maybe?

Please advise. We are a book reading family and want to get our firs ever built in bookshelf right.
