Please help - paint colors consistently look wrong
Comments (5)I just painted a hallway "Ginseng" by Devine Paint. Lovey soft fawn/tan/light brown. Devine paint is crazy expensive but there are some great colors that your usual paint store can match (if you can get the chip). I'm having a similar problem with finding the right colors for my kitchen cabinets. I am getting closer, however, thanks to the samples in Behr, Glidden, and Ralph Lauren that Home Depot makes--enough to paint several cabinets and then consider. The Glidden and Behr samples are $3.97 and Ralph Lauren $4.97. You probably know about that already....See MoreCalling all decorating Gurus can I get opinions on mirrors please
Comments (29)Pretend you are arranging pictures. Move the ottoman out and lay the mirrors on the floor in front of the sofa. How do they look: 1.with all 4 touching 2.with all 4, but with 1 or1/2" between them 3.with Only 3 If you find an arrangement you like put them up. Live with them in white and re-do the color later if you want. Addressing the reflection issue, it is preferable to reflect something lovely. If the mirrored buffet/hutch doesn't work for you, could it be moved ... Oh I can hear DH groaning from here:>)...to a side wall( fit??), and replaced with a long table or chest/console. Then you could have a big, bright painting over that, with lamp and greenery, perhaps, to be reflected in your new "windows". I'm thinking, however, that that's asking a lot and expect your sofa wall is far enough away from the D.R. hutch that it will be fine. One last thought...do not keep them if you are going to end up beating yourself up over your mistake. been there, done that, no fun!...See MoreColor Gurus please help (pic heavy)
Comments (17)What a pretty home! Your cabinets are going to be wonderful painted out and I love that island countertop. Looking at the kitchen separately: I'm not usually a beige person (I think it's the name of the color, which reminds me of the pinky-beiges of the past). However, I gotta say... I really could see matching to the tile color as a crisp, classic, beautiful solution. What's the splotch in the upper left? It seems like a contender. Given your granite doesn't appear to be up against any drywall, I'd think you would have a little more flexibility, but you could also pick up one of the granite tones. Looking big picture: It's hard for me to imagine a gray or the cooler tones in your space because of that beautiful effect you have going with those arches leading into a room into a room perspective. It looks like you can't really see kitchen wall from that view, so maybe that's a non-issue, but if I had your wonderful layout, I'd be focused as much or more on preserving that lovely continuity of tone your architecture is inviting you to play with as the tile border color. Your current colors flow so well. I really love how it goes from darker to lighter but stays in the same tonal family to a large degree. I'd personally be tempted to stay with a color strip and use a shade from each of them for each room. PS - I'm being infected with the gray bug, too. I'm beginning to see it as highly contagious. And potentially dangerous, for warm color girls who live in Alaska anyway. lol I'm trying to decide if I need a vaccination (which typically involves injesting a bit into the system) or quarantine (strictly enforced restrictions from going into that territory). PPS - Fun to see sailcloth on the walls, in both splotch and finished product form. That color recently perked my curiosity....See MorePirula, Other Color Gurus, need warm off-white help, please!
Comments (3)RL Deep Cream is very pretty, although very changeable, so you'd need to sample it in your house and room before deciding (well, you'd do that anyway!). Other posters here have called it "grey" or "lemon" -- in my somewhat dim MBR, it's a very warm off-white, right on the cusp of light beige and ivory. I don't see either grey or lemon in it at all. Too light for my purposes, but lovely. Maybe right for yours? There's another thread going about neutral paint colors -- perhaps there'd be some good suggestions there? Many people seem to like BM Ivory Tusk. Good luck!...See Moretrk65
