Calling those who recessed a refrigerator

It seems that the doors on most standard-depth refrigerators require some clearance on the sides to open. When you recessed your refrigerator, how far did you recess it? Case only (doors stick out)? Case and some of doors? Case and all of doors? If you recessed some of the doors, how much clearance did you leave on the sides for the doors to swing open? Has anybody had issues with the adjacent counter overhang interfering with the door swing?

I left an 1" on each side. Here are 3 pictures. Far left shows the profile. It sticks out about 1" could have been flush. Center shows the door open, right shows the door closed. I have about 1-1/4" of the left side. It could have been less. My fridge door is curved slightly.

This is a Blue Ribbon sauce from the Tulsa State Fair. Fire Starter Hot Sauce 20 fresh red habanero peppers -- stemmed 2 cups yellow mustard 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white vinegar 2 tablespoons cumin powder 2 tablespoons curry powder 2 tablespoons chili powder 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt 8 fresh peaches Combine all ingredients in food processor until smooth. Process in BWB for 20 minutes. Makes three to four pints. This is VERY hot if you leave the seeds in. I'd stick with the red peppers though for the color. I made a micro batch(1.5 pints) of Mild last night by cutting the recipe in half using 1 15 oz can of peaches and 6 de-seeded habs. It turned out DELICIOUS. I love to use this stuff on a bratwurst or a burger.

I have large expanses of countertop and all of mine looks the same. I remember the granite guy saying that they had to be careful picking slabs that were very close to looking the same. The slabs vary in look. My cousin has the same granite as mine, but it looks totally different because the quartz pieces are much larger in her slabs. So my guess is that maybe there wasn't enough attention paid to slab choice by the granite shop. It's always a good idea to tell the shop that when the slabs arrive, you want to approve them before they start making the tops, just to be sure the slabs are close matches.

I feel for the OP, but I agree that you have to tolerate buyers and learn to live with it. We sold 3 yrs ago and I would never want to go through that again. Took 3 months for the first offer and people came at all times, day and night. We lived close to NYC so we would get people coming after work and had many evening showings. All our weekends were shot. Couldn't plan anything because the house had to be clean and we had to leave. One thing which helped was our Realtor tried to be present at each showing. I don't know how she did it, but she would arrange the showings to fit her schedule. I know many people don't like having the listing agent present, but for us it worked. We always got feedback because she was there. She kept an eye on what went on, although she didn't follow anyone around. I think presence was enough to prevent problems. I don't know if your agent could come during showings. It would help. I did find people showing up, unannounced unnerving. Our house was set back from the road quite a distance, and occassionally someone would be near the door or in the yard taking pictures. It would startle me and I didn't like it. I almost called the police on a few occassions. Now I'm a buyer and I try to respect a house and a schedule. Sometimes missing an appointment can't be predicted, it happens. I always turn off lights and close doors. Selling takes a lot of patience and strength. You are probably new to the process, hopefully your house sells quickly and you can be done with it. Thanks. I thought that would be the case as well, but I checked the two closest and neither showed them as in stock. I guess I should call them to make sure. They do show that I could get almost all of them from them, just special-order as far as I can tell. We have 3 Lowes stores within a half-hour drive, but the closest Home Depot is an hour away....

I just have my doors past the cabinet so that they open and close. I don't see any of the black part of the side of the fridge. I am very happy with the look. The fridge--not so much...

we rececessed ours about 6" (the wall backed onto the stairs, so it pokes into the under-stair area). It's flush with the cabinets in front.

My doors are the only things that show. I love the look. It makes my white refrigerator sort of blend into the cabinets so you don't notice that it doesn't match the rest of the appliances. We do have a problem though. The fridge is a side-by-side and one of the handles hits the light switch so you suddenly find yourself in the dark at times. The kids love it.

weedyacres, that's the look I want! What clearances on the sides did you put in for the fridge to be flush with the cabinets?

It really depends on the fridge you select. Some open onto themselves and the cabinetry can butt up next to the ref. sides. Others open outboard of their sides and more clearance between the ref. sides and cabinetry is needed. You just have to check them.

Another important consideration is air/ventilation. The majority of these take in air from the rear and need clearance on sides/top to get that air. Restrictiong it could lead to a reduced lifespan.
