New Countertop, how many holes?

I have posted most of the question below on the Plumbing forum, then found that there is a special forum for Kitchen and Bath. So I make a similar post here, sorry for the duplication for any who read both forum posts.

We are having a new counter top installed in out kitchen and it will have the under counter sink mount. Thus, it is possible to "design" the sink for the faucet setup we like.

1) just two holes, one for the single handle spigot with a pull out spray hose and one for a soap dispenser, or

2) just get the usual/standard 4 holes that will accept anything in the future but will require a cover plate to cover the two unused holes for the number "1" arrangement.

Does fewer holes (minimum holes) produce a cleaner or easier to keep clean design? Does it convey a specific motif/design? Our home and kitchen are more Country than modern. The cabinets are dark brown (Minwax Early American) and the floor is "slate like", asphalt tiles. The new counter top is called Tapioca Pearl, and as that may suggest it is close to white with a faint pattern of color points, mostly dark colors, the basic feel is soft white.

We currently plan to us a bright chrome faucet and soap dispenser.
