The color looks fine. Which or what combination of all these pieces did you want to use where?

I think a larger mosaic would look better over the stove and use the plaque over the prep sink.

The colors are great. It's just a tad busy (I'm talking about just the stone tiles, not the designs). I'd like to separate it a bit from the counter. The grout might be enough. Or perhaps, if you're going for the full on design, I think anchoring it with a low band of the bronze might look good and help separate the two.

Personally, I'd go with something simpler because your counters and cabinets are so rich, as is the floor. The current painted walls give the eyes a resting place and make the details in the cabinetry pop. OTOH, sometimes more is more, and if you're going for total opulence everything you've chosen will work! By analogy it makes me think of a brocade daybed with embroidered satin pillows, cashmere throws, and decadent passementerie. Really vibrant, and colorful and rich.

Originally I started with the 12x16 grape plaque over the stove. I was kind of building around that. Went to the tile place and saw the scabos. I like the old world feeling and thought that felt homey and inviting to me. My husband and I travel to Europe alot and it gave me that feel. Honestly I don't know what I want to use. I just brought home a few of the pieces to look at it. The sample I have are 2x4's and a weave of the 2x2's (maybe not good for clean up) but I was thinking of using the 3x6's. The rest is up for grabs. I was hoping you guys might be able to see something in your heads that would look awesome. My head is not working :)

Tammi, been away for awhile missed this post. Were you originally looking at 4x4 coffee colored tiles with some kind of metal accent tile? For some reason I liked that better. Although you know I love subway tile for some reason the color variation in the tile itself seems a little busy with your granite on my momitor. How about something like this with your 4x4 tiles and you could use the small metal tile as an accent . Just a thought. This kitchen is on the finished kitchen blog

Hi Marybeth, so nice to hear from you again. You have a great memory. Here is a picture of the Expresso colored tile that I originally had. I assume I could get that in Subway style too. I guess I need to be asking that question too. What shape tile would look the best in the two areas.

For some reason I just love that color combo better. I just really like how that metal accent tile works with the tile and granite. I think either size would look great. As I said before I think if I would have used the smaller tiles I would have been able to play with the design some more. Of course I did not have the beautiful focal point stove area as you do. I definitely think you should do something special over the stove. Just a suggestion. How about one row of 4x4 run straight then your ribbon piece as a transition then go to it set on the diagonal. You could then put the larger metal tile over the stove area and put a few small metal accent tiles in the prep sink area. If the ribbon piece is too pricey you could eliminate it but I think it would be a nice transition from straight to diagonal. Does that make sense?

Hi Tammi :) The more I see of your kitchen, the more I like it! I'm not as artistic as many here and hesitate putting in my 2 cents but I like the "full on" look the Scabos travertine would provide but I also am a fan of letting the backsplash be a little simpler and just compliment the counter. You could dot it with a few of those smaller metal tiles for accent. I too have a 12x16 grape tile behind my stove. It's a resin travertine tile that's the same color as the 4x4 travertine backsplash tiles. I used a set of 3 bronze 6" tiles as accent along one backsplash wall.
Are the small metallic grape tiles just samples of the larger one that might go behind the range or would they be used as accent tiles?

Yes Marybeth it makes perfect sense. Thank you so much for your ideas. I'll put a few samples up and see what I think. I keep going back and forth with the Expresso and the Scabos. When I was in the store looking, the Expresso looked nice but the Scabos looked exceptional but I only had a very small piece of granite and of course their lighting is different there. I for sure do not want it to look too busy

Steff 1 I do like artteachernj, I remember going through those and stopping at hers in the past. I like the uniqueness of hers, of course if I do it it may not be so unique anymore :) Thanks for sharing that.

Tammi, If you love the Scabos in person go with your gut. You have done a great job so far picking out everthing. Both will give you the Old World look your looking for.

Just checked in for another look, I really like the shape of the 3x6 over the 4x4.

If you start with the plaque and use it as the center of a larger mosaic style treatment it would work. Your kitchen choices are beautiful so far. As you mentioned, you really do need to have a backsplash that makes a statement at least over the range and prep sink.

I know its hard for me to ask opinions when you guys are not here in the kitchen looking at it. My neighbor just came over and saw the scabos and the expresso and said although the expresso looks nice, the scabos looked great. So I think I may go for it unless someone out there has some more insight for me.
