Yeah. I have the same problem with my bedroom. I chose the paint in the daytime... and it looks great in the daytime, a nice cocoa brown ... but at night, under artificial light, it takes on a mustard tinge that annoys me.

It doesn't annoy me enough to repaint ... but if it were the living room, I would repaint.

And I'd try a nice big sample swatch first, and look at it under day and night lighting.

Oh lordy, I just went through that w/ my LR. Except that I was doing color washes - LOTS of work! I've usually had great success w/ glazing, but I could NOT get it right this time, & finally ended up w/ a solid color.

If I'm doing a solid color, I always do a large sample swatch first, on each wall. People smarter than I use a color board & move it around. ;-)

I would definitely try some different lighting options - especially if you already think your lighting might be inadequate. Different bulbs will give very different effects, as well as the amount of light. Can you bring a number of lamps in the room & play with bulbs (full spectrum, fluorescent in different colors, incandescent)

FWIW, It's hard for me to imagine Silver Sage appearing minty green in ANY light, so something might be off about the color matching, but I would still try lighting first.

I just recently got my feet wet in "paint land" but if it's that bad I'd repaint it. It sounds easier and cheaper than installing lighting? Also would additonal artifical light really help make a difference in the color?
I'm not familiar with Ellen Kennon paints. Maybe get a swatch/paint chip and compare the color with it with other brands. I wouldn't want to pay an additional $100 to have a custom color mixed up either.

Blue + yellow = green. Is there any chance you have warm white incandescent bulbs in the room? I would switch to Reveal bulbs and see what happens. Are your lamp shades a warm ivory? Just look at every light source and ask yourself why it might be changing the color and how you can alter it.

What kind of flooring do you have? I had very yellow bamboo in my last house and it definitely influenced my color choices.

I have written about Ashen Green here before. It's one of my favorite colors. It reads dark but isn't actually. Unless you are accustomed to all white and pale colors. It has a blue undertone but of you don't change the bulbs (or whatever is causing the problem) it might go olive-y on you and you might not like it in your LR either.

I have never used Glidden paint, so I can't comment on that. I have had both valspar and Olympic color matched to Silver Sage with excellent results. I have it in my bedroom which gets very minimal light at night and have not had any problem with the paint color seeming dramatically different. My guest room also has just one lamp at night and the color is great. I don't think the lighting is the problem, it's either the glidden paint or the person who color matched it for you.

Are you anywhere near a Restoration Hardware that you could go pick up a sample from them and maybe paint it on a board to check the color at night? If not, I believe lots of people have said that Benjamin Moore's Gray Wisp is the same color as Silver Sage.

Oh my goodness, I am in the same boat. I am trying for a bluish green in my living room, and have literally tried 17--that's right 17! different colors--Oyster Bay, Silver Sage, Rain, Quietude, Softened Green, Halcyon Green, Aganthus Green, Saybrook Sage, etc., etc., etc. I think I finally figured out it's the lighting.

In my kitchen I have an Aura color, Azores, which is a beautiful muted aqua-ish blue green. It looks great there because there is sufficient lighting. My living room, however is lit only by a ceiling fan 4 bulb fixture. Some lamps helped, but I am to the point of putting in recessed myself. No color looks correct, especially at night with the lighting. I can't seem to find any green that works!! It is driving me insane! Everything either comes out baby blue or mint green, and if I try to tone it down with a grayed or "browned" color, it turns muddy or depressing!

I don't put green on the walls because I dislike how it makes me look. I can wear a bright medium light green shirt but no green walls.

Many people like green a lot but it bothers me as a paint color.

I used EK Gustavian Gray in my bedroom (two houses ago) and it did the same thing. It was a low-light room anyway, so at night or on overcast days it was a muddy green to me.

Gustavian Gray went all minty in my bathroom with the jade green tiles. (Bye bye.) But, it looked fabulous in the dining room! Halogen lighting in both places, so it was really about that tile on the shower walls.

That's what I'm so worried about trying to choose paint colors for new construction before the lighting is up!! Everyone keeps acting like I'm crazy-anal about this, but I KNOW it's not going to look the same in evening lighting as in daylight!!

It's such a relief to know I'm not the only one dealing with this! And that I'm not crazy, LOL!

I repainted the molding and trim today a crisp white, and that seemed to help a little. I'm going to try switching out the lightbulbs (standard CFLs) and adding any extra light I can. Too bad I can't talk DH into a skylight...

The curtains are red dupioni silk... I wonder if that is bringing out the greenish cast somehow?

Welll....CFLs....that explains it! I know they are what we are supposed to be using but I just can't stand the way they make any just about any color look! My whole house is loaded up with them since we did a "green" build. But, I confess, I have switched them out in places where I just can't deal with it. :-(

Curious now how LED's and paint colors get along!

I have LED recessed cans and they are very color friendly. The CRI (Color Rendering Index) is a whopping 92.

Now, the LEDs under my cabs are another story. Half are warm and half are cool. I alternated the bulbs to try to get an even mix. It's okay, but the color on the wall still leaves a bit to be desired...

The red drapes will emphasize the green of the walls. That is true. Lighting should help.

By all means change the lighting source before repainting. Try Reveal incandescents or "Daylight" flourescents. Almost forgot about Halogena bulbs by Sylvania. Another bright white that will give you true color.

In a lot of posts lately I've been giving out the "change the light bulb" advice because I know it can make a world of difference. DH laughed at my "obsession" with having the right bulbs in our new house fixtures, until he saw the difference and now he knows.

I have EK Ashen Green in my dining room (north facing) and I love it. When the painter put it up he thought it might look too dark but it was beautiful. It wasn't too dark for windowless my basement bathroom - gorgeous in there too and no minty green. I also have BM Gray Wisp in my guest room. It doesn't look minty at night at all. I love it. Very spa-like.

I have regular bulbs in both places.

Count me in as another one who just painted and the color looks hideous at night! It's SW Kinetic Khaki and I could not explain why it looked so muddy green at night when it's so beautiful during the day. Well, all my lamps have CFLs in them. That explains it!

I commented how bad it looked and DH rolled his eyes. He has no patience when it comes to me changing my mind (frequently). So I'll get some Reveal bulbs and maybe I won't have to bring the paint can out of the closet after all! Yeaaa!

FWIW, Silver Sage didn't look nice in my house...kind of like Crest toothpaste. I always loved it in the store, so I went back to the store to see if the chip really matched the wall color. While I was doing this, a woman saw me from outside the window. She ran inside and told me NOT to use that color. She loved it in the store, and had painters come and use it. It didn't work in her house either, and she had to have all repainted. When it works, it really is a great color...but it can have a strange cast when it doesn't! I hope changing the bulbs is all it takes to make it work for you.

I used BM's grey wisp in our all white bathroom as an accent colour painted just on the door - it is wonderful. I loved it so much I used the rest of the quart to paint our windowless basement powder room. YUCK!! It looked like that old hospital green colour. I'm still contemplating using it in south facing bedroom, but you've got me reconsidering now.

I have SS aka Grey Wisp that I used in my current windowless bath and it looks great. However, I do use the Reveal bulbs so there is no "yellow" tint.

I think the SS needs a lot of white around it to look its' best. Here is a photo of it in my new guest BR with the white wainscoting. See how pretty it is.

Thank you all for the fabulous suggestions... I do not have an artist's eye and the ability to figure out how one color can affect another nearby, but I'm learning!

I repainted all the trim and molding in the room to a bright white, and that helped. I ended up switching out the curtain rods and moving out some darker pieces of furniture, which seemed to help a little also. I am still working on the lighting issue! I live in a fairly small town, so it's pretty hard to find anything but CFLs. I'm planning to get those Reveal bulbs mentioned, though, and I'm still trying to find a way to bring in even more light.

I love Brutuses room! I love her home since I just like her taste a lot.

We have a similar (slightly greener) color in our bedroom, and it has a chameleon tendency too. (DH didn't even believe the bedroom and adjacent study were the same color when we first moved in---one room has two full walls of windows and the other just has two, so the effect is 100% different. But we confirmed it when we had to repaint some spots!)

Lighting affected it a *lot* in our case----not only bulbs (interestingly, that improved when we switched to CFLs) but also placement of lights. (We had some electrical work done and added two small lamps when before there had been only the one overhead light---huge difference.) I would borrow lamps from some other rooms and play around with them to see what the effects are, and also try some other bulbs. (If you want to stick with CFLs, there are lots of options for "shades" of light that might solve the problem too. Our local ACE was okay with testing out bulbs and bringing them back for another room we were having trouble with---worth asking.)

Ellen Kennon's newer color, H2 Ahh!, is her full-spectrum version of Silver Sage! It was one of the colors she created for Kate Smith of Sensational Color.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one battling this problem! EVERY paint color turns greenish at night! If it's fleshy during the day, it's green at night, gold during the day, green at night, brown during the day, green at night. ARGH! I don't use reveal lights because the one time I tried everything looked grey and cold like the lighting was too "cool". I'm ready to paint everything back to white! :)
