Recommend a hot/cold water dispenser in sink, PLEASE

Looking for help deciding on a filtered h/c water dispenser in sink.

1). Should I get Reverse Osmosis or just filtered?

2). What brand of dispenser? Does anyone have one they love? I read some reviews about the ISE on another site that weren't favorable. Thank you for your help.

What are you trying to filter out? Will a non-RO filter take care of what you want filtered out? RO can waste water (even the zero waste have drawbacks) and can make your water more acidic.

My son and DIL put an InkSinkerator hot water dispenser in their new house and absolutely love it. Their cold water dispenser is in the fridge, so they got just hot on the counter. Because of their endorsement, I've ordered one -- both hot and cold. We're in the middle of building so can't report anything but their experience and that I enjoyed it while at their house.

We had an RO in our last house and eventually took it out. We decided our well water tasted fine without the filter and it turned out that the unit we'd put in was way more expensive to maintain than we'd planned on. I ended up putting in a second soap dispenser in the hole.

One of the other things we didn't like was that our RO made noises . . . actually, rather embarrassing noises. When we had guests hanging out in the kitchen, it was quite the conversation topic! A look of "Who did that?" was on every face!! We didn't miss it after removal!

We have both a water chiller and insta-hot coming out through one faucet. It's two separate units and they couldn't both fit under the sink so the chiller is in the powder room sink cabinet (the wall is shared between the kitchen sink and powder room sink so this worked out really well). There are different faucet styles available with hot and cold levers as well.

I am researching this topic myself. I realize this is months after your question. But insinkerator instant hot has a faucet with instant hot and cold, and it can be filtered or not. There are 2 handles on 1 faucet. My plumber recommended this brand. I have no financial ties or personal experience with the unit.

"can I just cap off the hot water line and install an instant hot water dispenser" Probably not ... if the pipes are that bad, they would probably crumble as you try to put a cap on them, and are ready to rupture in the wall anyway. "I don't want to replace the pipes because, to me, it's easier to run an electrical line then to crack open a plaster wall. " Ask a plumber ... they can usually repipe without having to make huge holes.

I have an RO filter, and I love the taste of the water. I'm not too concerned about the wasted water since we use it only for cooking/drinking. Our local water system water is not unhealthy, but it tastes like dirty socks. I used Culligan, and our water tastes good, but Consumer Reports rated several others higher, including the one from Costco. I have friends with filters, and it wasn't enough. One thing I learned while researching is that using RO filtered water limits which faucets you can use if you want to use an instant hot. You will need to use a faucet that accepts an air gap (which is different than your dishwasher air gap). It is a special piece that fits between the base of the faucet and the countertop.

I have an Everpure system and I LOVE it! It is both instant hot and chilled filtered water. They do take up quite a bit of space in the sink cabinet,though.

Thanks, all! Of course you all have something different to recommend! LOL :) Nothing is easy. I was considering the Everpure, but like you said, Islander, it does take up a lot of room under the sink. Buehl, I am so new to all of this, I have no idea if I need RO or just filtered. Our water tastes fine, just thought since we are redoing the kitchen, we should get one of these water sysyems. Hosta, my niece has the ISE and likes hers, but then I read somehting on another site and none of the reviews were good.

Just hoping I will get a consensus here. Thanks.
