blotches on giallo ornamental?

I just had my granite installed Wednesday, countertop and full backsplash. Today I noticed irregular blotches on one area of the backsplash. I have giallo ornamental (love it!) and in this particular area there are several blotches where

the background color looks darker? So much so that it is very obvious when you look at it. It isn't just a darker streak of color, it is like the background color is darker than all the rest of the granite surrounding it. Not sure if I am describing it well enough, but I am sure it didn't look like this when I had it installed or I would have noticed it as it is very obvious. Has anyone else had this problem with this particular granite? Is this discoloration normal with giallo ornamental? I don't want to call my tile company if this is normal, but I am sure it wasn't like that a few days ago. Thanks for any info.

I have had my giallo ornamentale for almost 2 years with no problems as you are describing.

What color is the stain? Could it be anything like the green bloom that has been discussed? Do a search on granite poultice and you'll come up with a lot of fixes for stains.

I would chose whichever has less gold because it's a fresher look. That comes from someone who has warm colors, including gold, in my living room. Have you seen a slab of Giallo Ornamental Light? I used it for a vanity and really like the white quartz crystals in it.

I have giallo ornamental and I can't imagine it in a leather finish. To me the leather finish looks best with the solids. It is an interesting look, but not very popular. I am wondering too if dust, fingerprints crumbs show more on this type of finish. I can tell you that with my giallo, I have to skim the surface with my hand because it hides the crumbs well. I agree that black and white is a classic look, but you have to like it. Have you thought about your backsplash? That may guide you in one direction or another.

We are just finishing our new kitchen, white shaker cabinets and giallo ornamental granite which was just installed 2 days ago and is absolutely gorgeous!! I fell in love with travertine, so we are going with the tumbled imperial cream subway 3x6 tiles. I was going to do the mosaic picasso for behind the range but was worried it would be too busy. I am adding a link to a picture on houzz with the GO and a mosaic backsplash that is breathtaking. From experience, if you decide on the mosaic or any travertine for that matter, I would ask for a sample from the lot you would be getting so you can see the range of colors and see if it would be too busy or not, it is amazing how the colors can vary from the tile stores samples they have. Can you post a pic? I was the one with the green bloom problem, So, while I am certainly not that I am an expert by any means, I could offer some advice.

FYI - Mine appeared about 1-2 weeks after install, and then kept popping up for the next couple of weeks. It looked like it was "inside" the granite, not something just on the surface.

(and I forgot to include a word of reassurance in case you are freaking about it like I was - after a bit of trial and error, mine were able to be removed and my granite is now every bit as beautiful as I hoped it would be)

Thanks for the info! No pics yet. I will have to see if I can find my camera. But the areas look much darker than the rest of the granite. It has the same splashes of black etc that the rest of the granite does, but the background color (for lack of a better word) is darker, so these areas look like a darker blotch. I do have to have someone come out to make a seam smoother, so I will add this to the list I guess. Encouraging to know that it may be an easy fix. Keeping my fingers crossed :)

forgot to mention that it doesn't appear to be anything on the surface of the granite, it does appear to be "inside" the granite. I doubt it is an actual stain because I have been without water in the kitchen since before the granite went in, and have done no cooking in the kitchen in a few weeks. So maybe something like that green bloom, except it isn't green.
