Looking for home decoration ideas!

Hey guys,

Are there any suggestions on where to look for ideas to decorate my new home? I am looking through magazines, interior designer sites, catalogues but cannot find what I am looking for. Please let me know if you have any idea.

Welcome to the forums, I see you just registered an hour ago !!.

Familiarize yourself with how this site works; there are 67 pages of discussions and threads on decorating. Spend time reading through those and you'll find a wealth of info, pictures, links to other sites, etc.....

Look for the search box, type in what item or subject interests you, then you'll have more focused results.

Well, a little more info would help, such as what style is the house itself, how old, and what's already done (crown molding? wood trim? etc. etc.), plus do you have either favorite or hated colors? What about styles - modern/minimal, Victorian, Deco, country? Start somewhere... I'm sure something in the mags has caught your eye more than other things. Plus what are you looking for - furniture? Upholstery? Paint?

My Aunt actually has something similar in her family room. She collects Lighthouses and she has a ton of them displayed on there. It looks very pretty when she has them all lit and takes up no real floor space.

I don't find that house to be ugly. It says small town craftsman's special to me. It's certainly not cookie cutter design, which IMO is ugly. My father grew up in the house his grandfather had built: small, poor layout, but still going strong over a hundred years later. There is more character in that kind of house than in any McMansion with superficial bling. Just be aware that the price is low for a reason. Money will need to be spent on other things before you can pretty it up on the inside or out. Looks like it needs a new roof and definitely gutters, so there's a chunk of change right there. Can you afford a paint job after getting the house waterproofed? Here it is in gray, a blue door, & the awkward shrub cut back:

I'm not understanding the scale of the photo. Those barstools don't look bar height and I don't see how they are practical. I would use the bar for mixing drinks but get a cafe table in front of it for the stools. I think you need to replace the wall art with a large vertical poster on each wall in the corner to create a space that feels like a room within a room. your walls and ceiling should all be painted a fresh white. start with that. you have a nice sized opening for a fridge . I might go and get a french door fridge that fits better. Upgrade the ceiling light and fan fixture in the main room. that one looks old. heres a nicer newer fixture for the main room what type of dwelling is this..no operative windows in kitchen/dinette zone??? I only see maybe one ceiling return for that whole section??? does the HVAC need update? Have you thought of opening up the wall and installing a window? Maybe some "whole house infrastructure improvements " can go on a list that you can do over time. Paint is not difficult or very costly for now, if you have limited funds.

Also your location has something to do with your decorating scheme, colder climates use heavy fabrics, dark colors, warmer everything...while in the south, where it's mostly hot, we use light fabrics, cool soft colors, cool tile etc...
