Built-in refrigerator for 30-inch deep counters
Comments (7)Unfortunately I can't recommend a specific refrigerator for you. But I wouldn't want to waste that 6" either. I have counter depth Sub Zeros at home (36" wide, one all freezer, one all fridge). At my vacation home I purchased a standard GE refrigerator and since the kitchen is small we recessed it a few inches into the wall and built out the one cabinet next to it a few inches. There are cabinets above it and on the outside is a floor to soffit panel that matches the cabinets. It certainly isn't the same look as my built in Sub Zeros but you sure can't beat the price and the look isn't bad at all. Most of us grew up with standard depth refrigerators and I don't think you'd lose track of items that are in the back. Plus you can still fit a large pizza box or large serving platters in them- and they don't fit in a counter depth unit....See MoreInstall base cabinets away from wall, to gain counter space?
Comments (20)As I type this, the contractors are downstairs framing the north wall of our galley layout so that the counters will be 4" deeper. They will be 2" taller on both sides. We are doing what Co-Co has done -- which I am glad to see, because a couple of the contractors we interviewed thought it was just too weird. Our kitchen is 10' wide -- just wide enough that you'd almost want an island but there's really no room for it. Making the counters the same depth as the refrigerator also allows us to repair the walls from the previous remodel where they'd cut out several studs to run plumbing....See MoreShould I make my counters 30 inches?
Comments (19)"Question to those who have 30' deep cabs: Are your drawers full extension (for the 30') and do they have soft close?" We have 28" deep cabinets and the drawers have 24" full extension, soft-close Blum glides. I'm not sure if those glides come 27", but they wouldn't have fit inside our boxes because the interior depth is 26 1/2". I know Accuride makes a 27" full extension glide. In order to get a drawer box deeper than 21", you'll have to go fully custom - local, Crown Point, Scherr's, something like that. Both Omega and DuraSupreme's "custom" lines, for example, will make a 30" cabinet, but they only offer a 21' deep drawer box. I do find the upper cabinets to be harder to reach. Ours are 14" deep and at 5'4", I find the back of the second shelf to be a bit of a stretch and the third shelf requires a little step stool. In our old kitchen, with 24" lowers and 12" uppers, I could just reach the front of the third shelf without a stool. However, the storage in the lower drawers is amazing! We are moving a lot of what had previously been in uppers to those drawers. And once the counters are in, I am so going to love the extra space! Even though we don't store many appliances on the counter, I always felt during baking and major dinner prep that it would have been more convenient to spread out straight in front of me, rather than further and further to the side....See Moregranite counter top and size of sink base?
Comments (7)One thing about a big sink: why do you need it? Just wondering: We tell people clean up your dishes ASAP. Don't let them soak: (Change cleaning habits.) Cook: soap up: rinse: stick in dishwasher ASAP. So I agree with going with a smaller sink: or a standard sink. Do not want to void cabinet warranty. This summer: we had a customer "insist" on a three holed sink: Well: I didn't know it would turn into a nightmare! I got the sink wholesale for customer as a nice jester: saved them $200-$300. Well the sink wouldn't fit on day of install! So, handyman had to go over there and cut under the sink into the cabinet! Then I got "yelled" at by the customer for not informing him of the size sink that he picked & insisted on: In good faith, I was helping him to save money buying for him! He had a drop in 3 holed over size sink: big difference from an undermount when it came to the cabinets and new granite. ***Waivers from now on and the customer can buy their own oversized sink & be responsible for the modifications. Just speaking from experience here. ~sorry if I sound like I am venting~ It's all about communication and knowledge before hand: always good to know: I guess be thankful they are bringing that up: ask them to explain in more detail to you what they mean!...See Morebmorepanic
