Yes, I'll be checking the pattern repetition when we go to make sure to allow for that. It snowed last night so we might have to wait until Monday morning or else after Christmas--sniff-sniff! I really wanted to get this fabric today, and it's on sale for 25% off.

Do I understand you right? Your husband is making your settee and reclining chair, right? You are a lucky lady to have someone that talented.

Thank you! As it turned out, we'll have to wait...until Jan. 2nd to get the fabric, but the woman on the phone said i could still have the 25% off. Don't these people know that this is an addiction? That I must have my decorating fix RIGHT NOW, TODAY??!!! I'll need lots of support between now and then, so I don't get the Decorating D.T.'s or something even more harrowing!
Seriously, yes, my husband is very talented and we've been working on the design all day today since we couldn't go for the fabric. I guess it's a good thing we have some time so we can get the design right and make sure we've considered everything that we should be thinking about. I'll definitely post some pics of the finished pieces. We figure that we'll be able to make the settle for less than $1000. I don't know yet how much we'll have to spend on materials for the recliner, but I'm sure it will be a similar substantial savings. I have pics of some of the other beautiful A & C furniture he's made so far, and I'll post them.

Lucky you! It's wonderful to have a husband who is interested in decor and has taste, and even better to have one who can build. Good luck with your sewing and I can't wait to see your pictures! What style is your home?

Oceanna, thanks for the encouragement! The upholstery for the settle will be simple, box shaped cushions on the seat and padded panels on the back, so I think I should be OK once I get the yardage determined relative to the repeat of the pattern. The house is a ~110 year old New Mexican vernacular Victorian that had some very prominent Arts & Crafts features added around the turn of the century, so we're going with the Arts & Crafts character of it in much of the house. My husband finished the drawings for the A & C settle, and this is essentially what it will look like, first the front view and then the side view. The back will have 3 padded panels, as can be seen in the drawing:

Pretty pieces - I can't wait to see pics of the finished chair and settle. The fabric you've chosen is really nice, esp. the stripe for the Morris style chair.

Thank you, Jenny! I expected to be looking for a long time for the fabrics, but found them right away at the second place we went to. We've been getting by with a little Ikea loveseat for several years, and I'm really looking forward to having this settle to stretch out on. But I have a feeling our 4 kitties will try to annex it for themselves...no way! This is going to be off limits to the felines!

Oh my goodness -- the pieces he made are just beautiful, Kim! I have to tell you I just drool over A&C homes, especially all the gorgeous built-ins that traditionally flank a fireplace. Your settle and your ricker are going to be just beautiful, and what a treasure all these lovely handmade pieces will be to hand down to your kids.

Are you familiar with the Bradbury and Bradbury site? I just love their A&C pics and their sense of color is to drool over.

Thank you so much, he does a wonderful job and these pieces will last forever as the joinery is rock solid in the A & C manner. As for the upholstery, well, I'm going to proceed with great caution! ; ) Fortunately it isn't terribly complicated, so I don't foresee too many problems...at this point ; )

I agree it does! We are in New Mexico and we do have some things in our house with a bit of a regional (true) Southwestern styling as well as A & C, and from the books/pictures I've seen, Southwestern items were used quite frequently in Arts & Crafts homes (think 'mission' as in southwestern missions). And while it isn't as apparent from the photos above, the colors in the 2 fabrics we chose are actually very well coordinated when seen in person. The striping colors came out a bit 'off' in the above photo.
And the most critical factor, of course: DH likes the fabric and it's going to be his special recliner, so I deferred to his choice ; )

I will have to spend some more time browsing the site...and salivating!!!! Thanks so much for pointing out the antique lighting thread. I did miss it!--how did I miss that?? I haven't been on the computer as much this week due to pushing to get the painting done in my office, and we had the computer in to the 'computer doctor' from Thursday to Friday as well.

Kim, you are so very welcome. I'm glad you saw that. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent lost in time gazing at the Bradbury and Bradbury site. Before the days of everyone on the Internet I even ordered a catalog from them and it's one of my prize inspiration posessions to this day. There were a couple of samples of paper in there and their paper is so incredible.

I'm glad you saw the lighting thread too. I've also spent a lot of hours on eBay looking at the antique lighting. I'm just crazy about it. The right antique fixture would set off your DH's wonderful furniture creations so beautifully.

I also have a Meyda Tiffany catalog that is just scrumptious. You may want to spend some time drooling over their site as well. One of my favorite lamps in the whole world is their camel lamp. I don't know why, but it's always tickled my fancy. How cool would a pair of these Meydas look on your living room wall on a dimmer switch? I am nuts about the old slag glass lamps that show up on eBay.

I'm glad your computer is back up. :-) This one is hiccuping too much lately. I'm going to have to prevail on my son who works at Microsoft to spend some repair time on it and pray it isn't giving up the ghost. Computers are the most wonderful thing when they work well, but sure are the pits when they don't.
