New kitchen layout...would love your thoughts!

Three years ago we bought my parents' wonderful house and have been slowly remodeling ever since. We are now ready to tackle the kitchen project. We've decided to move the kitchen to our little used 15 x 19 living room in the center of the house. We will open the wall between the new kitchen and the existing family room to create a large, open great room. Included in the great room (not shown on this plan) will ultimately be a bar with wine cooler, ice maker, kegerator, and fridge drawer.

We are both retired and we both cook and love to entertain. We host large family dinners (the dining room will also be open to the great room and the entry) and entertain in our back yard often. We barbecue at least 3-4 times/week. This open plan will really suit the way we live and entertain.

The only things we can't change are the windows - one on the south wall above the cleanup sink and one on the east wall - the pantry (former linen closet), and the opening to the great room on the west (right) side. Everything else is up for grabs. This plan doesn't reflect the addition of a short angled wall between the entry and the kitchen that offers some separation and also directs guests into the great room on the right. The short separation walls into the great room have also been modified.

We did play with the idea of only having the two upper cabinets adjacent to the cleanup sink and eliminating those next to the range, highlighting the hood. We also considered eliminating the small window. If we hear compelling arguments in favor of doing either or both of those, we will certainly reconsider. The two uppers on the sink wall will be seedy glass, while the others will not.

The DW drawer in the island will be used primarily for glasses on the recommendation of a friend. We may switch it with the trash/recycle cab.

I have spent so much time learning on this board and value the expertise of those who so willingly give their opinions and time. Thanks in advance for all your help and support!
