Do men and women design gardens in a different way?
Comments (7)A doctor is a doctor. Some people prefer a doctor of their own gender, some of another, and some just don't care as long as the doctor is good - or more likely, accepting new patients when your HMO changes. I think it is probably more due to who we are comfortable dealing with that a vast difference in results. As patients we have preconceived notions about male doctors or female doctors. Whether these notions are true or not we will measure them against these perceptions. We bring to the table what we have done in our past. If we came from raising beautiful perennial beds in our back yards we will be bringing experience that grew from that to the design table. If we worked for hardscape construction companies we bring that. If we are out of an environmental design field we'll probably be prone to more native landscapes and be less likely to be planting colorful exotics. The reality is that a lot of people are going to have preconceived notions of what background and what interests you have by your gender or the way you look or dress. Whether that is right or wrong, you should do the best to project where you are right now. If you show up with a pair of long braids, calico gloves, and a sun bonnet, I'm not going to think that your strength is in masonry regardless of your gender. If you look like you just crawled out from fixing a tractor, I'm not going to have confidence in you designing my cottage garden. These don't rule you out or rule you in, but it just makes a longer row for you to hoe to gain a persons confidence....See MoreWomen & Heart Attacks
Comments (4)Wow!! That is some very important information ALL women should know! Why are they not telling us?? Or more importantly, why isn't it common knowledge? Ridiculous. One of my friends had a mild heart attack not too long ago. She told me that she woke up from a dead sleep (so to speak), and she couldn't catch her breath. She soon lost consciousness, but luckily, her hubby was home (very luckily, since he's a long-haul truck driver and is gone a LOT). She's fine now, thank God. Another friend of mine also had a mild heart attack (uhhh, maybe I need to find new friends?! LOL Just kidding!). She said her only symptom was dizziness, before finally losing consciousness. Luckily (again), she was on the phone with her sister, who promptly dialed 911. She's also fine now. Stay safe, ladies! Brenda...See MoreDifferences Between Girl Babies/ Toddlers and Boys....
Comments (11)I don't think the walking or quick-learning has anything to do with being a girl. All children are different. I have two boys who are as different as day and night. My oldest was very physically advanced, crawling at 5 months, pulling up at 6 months (his little legs would wobble and shake as he FORCED himself to inch along the furniture), cruising (fast! - literally running down the hall with one hand on the wall) at 8 months. But he wouldn't let go and walk until 10 months. My youngest, who didn't walk until after his first birthday, is much more of a dare-devil. The younger son is the one that climbs any and everything. We have to inventory his bumps and bruises every Monday so daycare will know what happened at home. Little did I realize that those early years would so accurately reflect their personalities. My oldest is very determined and very self-controlled, but is not a risk taker. He doesn't like to disappoint anyone. My youngest is much more footloose and fancy-free. He doesn't give a flip what you think of him. My boys are 5 years apart and the younger child regularly plays with his brother and his older friends. He is as tough as nails! I don't think he will ever lack for self-esteem. I also worried (unnecessarily, but that is what moms do!) about their intelligence. My oldest just *knew* things. He just seemed to know colors/shapes/numbers/letters with zero effort. My youngest didn't pick up those things nearly as fast. I thought my oldest was normal so I was shaken by my youngest's lack of interest. The younger child started talking very early and got a lot of attention for being a "talking baby", but in my mind, he really couldn't "do" every much. When DS2 started attending preschool, he shone. He can memorize any story and repeat it word for word. Finally I had an Eureka moment. My oldest is a visual learner to an extreme. My youngest is a auditory learner. Neither is better than the other. They are just different. I always say that God sent my younger son to teach me humility. I thought I had this parenting thing figured out ... WRONG!...See MoreA message to women
Comments (3)Thank you so very much. I am a widow and have been dating for six years. Your message has clearly shown me my mistakes in dating. Although I was left disappointed in my last relationship, I am thankful I can still feel and give love. Yes, there are good men and good women available, and with time, I will meet someone who will share a happiness in life and love. I'm taking it slow and keeping my chin up. My best to all....See Moreoutsideplaying_gw
