One coat paint new color over different first coat?

I am really messing up my new bedroom. First the painters painted it Light Pewter by BM but I didn't like how gray it was turning out. After tinted primer and 1 coat. So I took some time and tested many other colors narrowing it down to Palladian Blue or Quiet Moments. I went with Quiet Moments and right now with 1 coat it is looking more gray than blue green. If I put a coat of Palladian over the Quiet Moments would thy look ok?

Okay, if you're still painting, I think you need some sleep! :-)

First of all, it is always advisable to do two coats. You might get what you think is adequate coverage with one, but there will be spots you don't quite cover and YES the color does come into its own with the second coat.

Palladian Blue is a far cry from Light Pewter. I think the QM will give you what you are looking for once you have two coats on four walls. Remember, there is a reflectivity factor when paint bounces off itself from wall to wall. The color builds.

PB is a very strong blue green. It is lovely, but quite a departure from the gray you started with and I have a hunch that's not what you're after. I'd keep going with the Quiet Moments.

What amysrq said, especially about the two coats. The one-coat claims better coverage but you still need at least one more to get the depth.

Thank you very much, Chris and funcolors, especially Chris for your very detailed information. I'll go for BM kitchen and bath satin finish paint. It claims to be self priming on most surfaces. So after sanding to lightly remove the sheen, can I apply the BM paint directly for two coats and skip priming? I interviewed another GC for my bathroom remodel, he also said one coat was enough. They just don't want to take more time to do a better job. I'll offer $100 more for one more coat. If the GC still insisted on one coat only, I would hire a painter later or do it myself. I have done this once and will never do it again. I put on a coat of Regal Matte first and then the people decided they wanted eggshell. I figured one coat over the Matte should do it. It came out horrible....had to recoat. I'm not saying that this won't work for you. It may. It is going to depend on a lot of things like lighting, color, brand etc., but the general rule is to use the same product for both coats to guarantee good results. Good luck.

Okay, well.... I painted my master bathroom in DKC #3, and well it is truly amazing. It's really beautiful and I couldn't be happier. Now the first week it was a little weird. Depending on the time of day, the color went from cream (which it is supposed to be) to PEACH! And when I opened the can it was pink!!! Yeah. weird. However, as the paint cured, the changing colors thing toned down and now it is just this luminous, incredibly beautiful cream. What kills me is that several friends, who have been following the remodel very closely and coming over regularly to see progress, said "beautiful color in the bedroom" "really nice color in the kitchen." and then: "WHAT did you use in the bathroom??? it's AMAZING!!" How good an endorsement is that? And after curing for awhile, the whole "color on acid" thing goes away. This is with DKC # 3, which is a cream, with an ever so slight blush of pink. I'll let you know how it goes with DKC # 16 in the foyer hallway. This is really amazing stuff, and worth every penny to me. Ivette

What would happen if we painted the second coat pure white? It's not like the first coat is going to influence or change the color of white you put over it if you're using a top tier, quality brand of paint. Olympus belongs to the blue-green hue family - it's a blue-green-gray. And I think it's a wonderful exterior color choice for your house. It might not be what you envisioned, but it's very pretty. Totally modern farmhouse vibe.

Thank you both!! I calmed down and today the second coat of paint of Quiet Moments is going up. I am excited to see it! I think you are right that Palladian Blue may have been too much for me.

It also changes as it dries completely and with several recent coats on it, you will need to give it time (which by now, you have, lol).

What color 2nd coat would tone down a bright coral, the second coat is scheduled for tomorrow.

I have a gallon of Sherwin Willams Artichoke and my tile is more Privilege Green. Can I use the Artichoke as base coat then Privilege Green as second coat? I hate to waste the gallon I brought.
