best/favorite place to go smell the roses in SF Bay area?
Comments (7)Berkeley has a rose garden kind of up in the hills on Euclid Avenue. They won't have many of your roses, but they'll have some. I think Oakland also has some rose gardens, but I haven't been to them. The rose garden in GG park may not be blooming much right now, since it's been so cool. That garden usually doesn't have much bloom, since SFO is so cool. The Russian River Rose Co. in Healdsburg has most of your roses. They're only open by appointment in summer, but they're usually open again for weekends in October. They've got a lovely rose allee that goes into the vineyards & offers a great view of the hills - I love that place! I agree w/ Elise - you'll enjoy Garden Valley Ranch in Petaluma. Filoli is also wonderful, and there's a museum in Palo Alto that has English roses, but I haven't been there. If you're interested in a trek, you could explore the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery. It's a lovely place, with antique & found roses, masoleums, etc. For me, Fair Bianca is a small shrub - I didn't know it could be a climber. It has that classic english diaper pail fragrance :) (I'm not exactly sure why Austin has so many roses w/ that fragrance!) Mme Issac Perriere (not sure about spelling) has one of the strongest rose fragrances & grows well for me in zone 9. She can be a pillar or climber & she's rarely out of bloom for me. Mme Alfred is another great! Good luck!...See MoreWhere is the best place to buy Crape Myrtle's in the Austin area?
Comments (3)They're everywhere, almost every local nursery should have them. Check out this website: www.clemson.edu/crepemyrtle/ and when you know what you want, shop around. Normally this would be a bad time to plant, but we're getting so much rain (and no end in sight yet) that you might well get away with it, as long as you remember to keep watering once it gets really hot and the rains stop (assuming they ever do!) For larger specimens, do you know those "tree gator" watering bags....but be careful to not overwater crepe myrtles. Fall is actually the best time to plant trees and shrubs in our area, so you can also buy your crepe myrtles now and just water them in their pots through the summer....See MoreBest place to buy linear drain?
Comments (29)I have been watching your posts, too, waiting to see the shower done. Yay! Very modern-looking tiles! Is that a porcelain version of diamond plate? Very nice. I am still doing my planning. We are not ready to start buying yet. We are getting quite close, though. I have a concern about the linear drains that I do not see addressed anywhere. I am hoping that as you start to use your drain in the next few weeks, or as Lori starts using hers in the months ahead, the problem will come up. It has to do with hair. I lose a lot of hair each shampoo. I used to have a mesh bubble with a metal rim that went over the drain, but I would be ankle deep in water before my shower was over. Now I have a Lint Trapper, made for a laundry tub, stuck in the drain. It catches the hair, which tends to stay low, and the water can still go over the top and drain. I pull the hair off after every shower. The slots in all of the linear drain covers I have seen look like the hair could slide right down and go into the trough. From there, it is downhill into the actual drain. How does one stop the hair?...See MoreBest accent colors for otherwise brown and neutral room
Comments (15)I LOVE that lamp! Thank you so much! Yes, his art mostly consists of old black and white photographs, old wooden snow shoes and skis (this is a ski house). He's about to downsize from his primary house in another city and spend more time at the ski house. His primary house has some more colorful art in it that is very beautiful, so I can probably facilitate him bringing some of the art up there....See MoreIdaClaire
