Souprqt - I have a ? about your banquette
Comments (0)I read in your description of your banquette that the back cushion snaps on to the back of the banquette. How are the snaps fastened onto the wood? I was planning on making my own cushions, but I couldn't figure out how to attach them to the back. Any info would be helpful. Thanks! Stephanie...See MoreFinal Vote.. Comments (90)I am curious as to how much fabric you needed for the cushions? I always have this fear that when I love a fabric that by the time I get around to ordering it it will be out of stock. I am very tempted to guesstimate how much I would need and order while the going is good! Looking forward to seeing the final result :)...See MoreNeed help with material choices for banquette
Comments (9)Thank you for the posts and the photos! I spent a lot of time learning about kitchen design, etc. and now I need to learn or least pick up some decorating insight. Pipdog- Your banquette is beautiful. I love your combination of soft neutrals. Its looks like a wonderful place to curl up and have coffee. On the recommendation of another GW'er I had checked out cushionsource.com and had noticed they carry sunbrella fabrics. Yours looks lovely. We do not have children yet (emphasis on the yet) but I want the space to be kid and pet friendly (we have two black-n-white cats) with rear claws. Blfenon- I will have to check out that issue, thank you. I am sure the banquette will become the cats favorite spot as well. pammyfay---LOL. I will have to make sure I consider the booty-scootability factor. Good thing you mentioned it-- because I had not even thought about it. I really like pipdog's neutral off-white/sandy color cushion. That way I could dress it up with pillows and I am not committing to a color. I have troubles committing to color. The wall color for example, I am still not completely sold on it. I like it, but I do not know to integrate it into the space. My kitchen/dining area is a room I relax in--because cooking is relaxing and my down time from working. So I want it to feel like a comfortable hangout type space. Any thoughts? I will try to post more photos-- we just started taking back the space last night (i.e. cleaning and removing boxes of screws and wood glue from the interiors of the cabinets). Oh and here is one fabric that caught my eye--- maybe it would be best for pillows to tie in that wall color a bit?...See MoreBanquette as only dining area?
Comments (24)The biggest decision in our kitchen / dining room remodel was whether or not to replace our formal dining room table with a banquette. We had these concerns about resale value and whether it was "accepted" to make this change. We did a banquette, and in retrospect it was the best decision we made. It's clear looking back that virtually all of our initial skepticism was based on an outdated view of what is seen as "acceptable." We had an architect who originally proposed the idea. For us it added a lot more space in our combined dining room / kitchen. The other main advantage is that it made the space much more usable. We went from having a formal dining room that we never used to a much more functional space that we use probably 4-6 hours per day. We also built storage under the bench which we didn't have before. I've since talked to a couple realtors who have confirmed what our architect said, which was that the most important thing is the overall functionality and usability of the space -- if you dramatically improve that, it will increase the resale value of your house. With our banquette, we have chairs on the other side of the table so we can seat as many people as before for dinner parties -- the banquette is more like a bench seat. In our case, it's just more informal than it was before....See MoreRelated Professionals
