Bosegirl, you are sending mixed messages!! "I don't want to rush like we did with our first home" and "We need a kitchen table ASAP". I would use your old kitchen table for now or put it in the dining room for now and eat there. Nothing wrong with using a card table for a while!

I don't think a glass kitchen table is unsafe. Make sure it is a thick high quality glass. I had a glass table with a metal frame when my kids were little.

For your toddler get her room set up as soon as possible. Spend time doing this instead of looking for a new kitchen table! Once she has her own room then you will have better control of her sleeping routine. Do you have someone to take her outside or to a park while you get stuff done?

Area rug - a little big is better than too small. Use one of the online room planners to lay out your room and furniture and then lay out different sized rugs. Is the furniture in the room? Use blue painters tape or old sheets to outline the size of rug and look at it for a few days.

That is a great idea, I just told husband we have to fix up her room tomorrow so we can go from there with SOME sanity. Thank God she has school the next two days while we're home.

Glad to hear others had glass tables work out...I'm not 100% sure what I want but the card table will do until I know.

Glad you are getting your toddler's room set up right away! From my experience moving twice with toddlers, it helped immensely to have their rooms set up similarly (if not the same) as their old room right away. Even if that meant eating takeout on paper plates on the floor because we spent all our time unpacking the kids' rooms. :)

And take deep breaths and enjoy your new house and live in it before you make changes. My son cried buckets when we replaced our dining table at our new house. Too much change at once is not good for anyone. And fwiw, we still use the kitchen table that "doesn't go with the new kitchen at all" two years after our last move. :)

It will come. Get your home and life organized first and then focus on decorating.

The advice to get your toddlers room done is great advice. We moved with a toddler, he was going to sleep in a "big" bed and we made a big fuss over that and put his toys around his room and in the family room. He transitioned easily and had to show his grandparents his "big bed". He was so proud....with his toys around he didn't seem to notice the change.

I find glass top tables uncomfortably cold to the touch. I used to keep my laptop on mine so my arms touched the table more than they would when eating but don't little kids lean on tables while they eat? Would it be cold for them? I know I am particularly sensitive to cold things so maybe it's a non-concern to normal people but I thought I would throw it out for consideration. Glass tops show smudges and fingerprints much more than wood, another consideration with kids(no offense towards your particular kid, maybe s/he is the picture of neatness). I'd stick with a card table or the mismatching old table until you find just the right table (which to me wouldn't be glass topped).
