Funny, we recently made new night stands that are each 34" wide.
I wanted them tall and wide. We have a queen size bed,
the room is 14 feet wide.
How wide are the master bedrooms in the houses that you're looking at?
I was so worried my end tables were going to look to big as well...I got lots of help and encouragement on this forum.

I'm not visualizing what you are saying. How wide of a swath do you need to fit a bed and the nightstands? Have you measured your wall? Are you not looking at any houses that have a master as big as the one you have now? And bedroom furniture does not necessarily line up along the wall. You can move things around a bit. If you need to downsize your house size, (which is what it sounds like you are doing) then the furniture will need to downsize too. That's one of the cool things about downsizing, you get to switch things out and move stuff around, and maybe get rid of a few things.
My master is only a couple of inches over 14' wide, but I have my queen bed, a dresser, a wicker chair, and a 28" wide nightstand on that wall, with space in between. My bed is angled, so I put the other nightstand/night table on the other wall, but still............

O.K., now I'm really not saying this to be rude....but.....you should buy furniture to fit your house....not a house to fit your furniture. Unless you are talking about rare and extremely valuable antiques here. Why make a $400,000 decision based on a $2,000 bed? This may be the accountant in me talking, but it doesn't seem to make sense. We moved 4 years ago and now have a grand total of 6 pieces of furniture that we had in our old house. Things from our old house just didn't work with the style/layout of our new house. That's what craigslist is for!

I know what you mean, Kiko. When we went looking for a house a few years ago, I remember saying over and over......"But where would I put my armoire?"
I love my present house and it suits our needs, and it fits my armoire. But we probably overlooked at least one nice and inexpensive place that would have worked well, because I was preoccupied with furniture placement. And after a few months, a lot of our furniture changed over that we brought with us. I still have the armoire. I have the sofa. I have a dresser. And I have a few small pieces, but that's about it.......

kiko, red....I agree! My master bedroom is a weird layout, but the view, location, price.....was "to die for". My bedroom looks weird, we made the nightstands tiny just so we have nightstands! The nightstands we purchased with our bedroom set we stacked on top of each other and use them as a lingerie chest! The only place we could put the bed was in the corner,to be able to walk around it.

We later discussed buying land and building a custom home that was "perfect". But open land is so far out of town we'd have issues commuting in the snow and resale is terrible when not in the city. Issues with water restrictions(no garden!),rural electric is high....etc...

If you fall in love with a home that has a tiny master bedroom, you can always do small floating nightstands.

Use some wood that will fit the space, attach to corbels, and use wall lighting instead of lamps.

We had the same problem. We ended up painting old telephone stands (20 inches wide) white. They are the only white furniture in the room as everything else is cherry. The trim is white, so it works. Funny thing is that one phone stand was from DH's parents and one is from mine - they are both over 50 years old but were not "good" furniture to begin with, so it was OK to paint them.
The one in the corner has a lamp, but we didn't put a lamp on the one by the door. I was concerned it would be knocked over when carrying anything big into the room.

The others are right. Look at the house for location, traffic flow, price, etc. and worry about the furniture later.

Check out antique/consignment stores. Look for a couple of small *dressers*(or one)or a sofa table, or two. What i'm saying is they don't have to match or be the same size in height or length. I prefer bigger pieces that I can place books, lamp, clock, etc., and don't have to worry about spilling my glass of water.LOL

In my MB I have a high rice bed, so I needed something higher than the standard nightstand. What I found was an antique small chest of drawers, and a smaller what looks to be a dresser(it had a mirror,but I took it off~I found both at an antique auction.

You don't say what style you want, but remember, you can use anything that is higher and fits the style you're looking for~not necessarily a nightstand per se. ;o)

Well, we put in an offer on ANOTHER house (this is the 3rd one) Maybe the third time is the charm? The bedroom is much smaller than my current room which is over 13x17. I'll worry about the furniture IF we get the house!

Cliff and Joan - the room size of this particular house we put the offer on is 12'11"x13'7" My furniture, if pushed up against each other with no room in between is 12 feet, exactly. Bed is 80"w and each of my nighstands is 32"w. That gives me 1'7" in this home, and it's not enough to be able to enter the bathroom.

Your bedroom looks lovely. Seems it's a long room??

The current owner has a queen bed and one nightstand on the right side of the bed. The window you see in the first picture, right to the left of that (see 2nd picture) is the bathroom doorway.

RED, it's been hard for me to find a home with a large master that has the other features I'm wanting in a house. Most newer homes have the large master I'm looking for, but don't have the formal living room and/or layout I'm wanting, so I'm limited. Older homes seem to have the layout I want, but not the big master bedroom. I too agree with Kiko, see below.

KIKO, got the point and am agreeing with you. I'm getting rid of alot of other furniture. I like my furniture but can live without it. I'm just not sure how to put "odd" pieces together and wanted to see how others would put a bedroom together made of mixed pieces of furniture, without it looking feminine.

Thanks to everyone else who replied, truly appreciated. Hope others will respond who have a room like this, it's nice to see how others have their rooms and how they've put things together.

Guess we'll see how this goes with this offer. I've learned not to get excited about any home anymore. I won't get excited until the day it closes! BUT, whatever home I get, it seems a smaller bedroom is going to be something I'm going to have to go with - just can't be TOO small, some I've seen are 12x10- nay, nay!!
