What are the cons to ordering a toilet online vs through plumber?
Comments (14)lori_inthenw: From my very minute experience, the showrooms show manufacturer list prices only. A plumber will often give you a 20% or more discount. Have you contacted any plumbers to get their prices yet? Try that first before you order online, just to see the difference. Lillo: I understand now why the plumber charged you to fix the leak around the screw on your Lowe's toilet. Since you bought it at Lowes and not thru him. That is a good example of what I am kind of worried about - that they will have to charge us to come back and take care of anything wrong with the toilet itself. (I am talking about problems that happen within the the first year or so. ) I finally found a wholesaler who will order Totos here, so I am going to pursue getting a plumber's price on some Totos thru this supply house. Of course, they have NO TOTO toilets on their showroom. floor!! (If they are such good toilets, why do they just about blacklist these toilets?) grrr If I find the plumber's price on the Toto's is not drastically higher, I will order thru him. Otherwise, it looks like I will order online and cross my fingers. :) Finally, It is frustrating to me, and all of us, that the plumbing showrooms seem to carry either Kohler or Toto, not both. And living in Wisconsin, this is almost exclusive Kohler territory!! Nothing wrong with Kohler products - they are gorgeous! I just would prefer a 1.6 Toto vs a Kohler 1.28 flush. (The salesperson at Kohler said they no longer make 1.6.) I am ordering a Kohler kitchen sink, so I am not anti-Kohler. :)) THANKS everyone for your replies. It is helping me learn a lot. I would love to hear from others about their experiences ordering thru a plumber vs ordering themselves online....See MoreBroken Delta Shower Faucet
Comments (2)Yes if you change to a Kohler but you would need to remove tiles. Another choice is to get to the valve on the opposite side of the wall. Delta can also let you know what trim kits will fit your valve so you can update the look. Valves are unique to each manufacturer so cartridges and parts are not interchangeable....See MoreReason GC put in Delta valves when we specified Kohler Trim???
Comments (20)Yes, he's lying. Agree with above. You have been fed straight-up b.s. and now you have to be a hard @ss (stand your ground) and demand it gets done right. Who eats the extra labor is their tough problem, so stop trying to stand in their shoes. They have cast doubt in you (lying, frankly) and that is leading you down the path of "find solutions and compromise" for b.s. reasons. Force them to solve the problem that they created for themselves. Know a lawyer? Let them draft a friendly letter for you. "We wish to rectify this situation in a friendly manner...." Sincerely....Esquire. The ONLY reason to now leave it is would be that the owner wants to acquiesce and leave it - that's up to the owner. But you get $$$ back for that! I think the contractors are overtly taking advantage of your unfamiliarity with this process. Doing the work first, and they saying "by the way...??!!" B.S.!!! And if this happens to have a male/female dynamic, it can be all the more true, most unfortunately. Whatever the reason for the switch, this isn't the first time they tried it. That's for sure. Contractors are very well aware of the importance of fixture selection. Don't fall for the "there's no difference". I see plumbers that try to do this for toilets and tub drains too many times. You buy a Kohler tub and they try to install an old fashioned drain into it before anybody thinks about it - just so they can say "you should have told me". More b.s. Comments (47)I was finally able to see the Kohler Vinnata in person in a Lowes in another town, and the Delta Leland in HD. I do think the full size Vinnata is too big for me. I was surprised, though that the Leland spray head was plastic. I think the Kohler is "wrapped" in metal, but I don't remember where I heard/read that. Maybe it was here. Anyway, it felt more substantial. Of coarse my current old fashioned black spray head is plastic, too and it has never broken. Anyway, I would like to see the Vinnata prep faucet to see if it is enough of a size difference for me to be more comfortable with it. It is actually a little bigger than the leland but smaller than the full size vinnata in height according to the specs. Now I am wondering about a couple of others I saw. I found that I didn't find the height as much of a problem in more sleek, slender designs with smaller diameters in the neck, bases and spray heads. They might fit in a smaller kitchen a little easier, or just be easier to get used to in size. Sue...See MoreRachel_NYC
