I think it would be perfectly fine, but then I have leopards and giraffes on my chairs so my opinion might represent a faulty sense of style. :)

Can you post a picture of the fabric you are considering? I think it would look fine, but it depends upon the stripe.

I think you can do whatever appeals to you! I might be inclined to run the stripes across the seat side to side, but it would also depend on the fabric.

I think that the chair would look great in stripes. What colours were you thinking of? I would do a narrower stripe rather than I wide one.

Nicely done,Suero. I think the stripe is fine running that way, but I would also consider running it sideways on the chair. I think the sideways view would give the seat more visual width, which would be a good balance for the wide 'shoulders' of the chair.

Thanks for the visual Suero! I do think the fabric works with it. Maybe I should even try a thinner stripe. Then I started thinking even animal print might work.

I need an HTML primer, but I might not be able to post images because I am on my 7 yr old's laptop and it has a bunch of security stuff on it. I will post a few more fabric ideas once I'm back on my own computer.

BTW, I assumed that the stripe has a 9" horizontal repeat, and your chair seat is about 18" wide. I centered the stripe with the red stripes in line with the wheat back sheaves. I don't think that it would look as good with the stripes running across the seat.
