Pls help with bungled soap dispenser choice

Hi all,
I'm mostly a lurker but have learned so much from reading all of your posts. I could use some Kitchen Forum wisdom re. a stupid error I made. We're nearing the end of our kitchen addition, and I didn't give the placement of my soap dispenser a lot of thought before the granite guys drilled for it. It's behind our farmer's sink, and I've just returned home after the install to find that the spout doesn't clear the lip of the sink. The sink is upmounted, so it sits slightly above the granite. I have a Kohler Vinnata faucet and the Kohler K-1894-C soap dispenser in polished nickel.
I'm guessing that the simplest thing to do is find a soap dispenser with a long reach, but I'm striking out. Anyone have a suggestion of a fairly traditional polished nickel soap dispenser with a long (4.5 inch or more) reach?

Ours had to be drilled back further to accommodate the reservoir below so the spout pretty much lines up with the edge of the sink. It hasn't been an issue as a hand is always below the spout to catch the soap.

Measure your dispenser's escutcheon. If it is large enough to cover an elongated hole, have them return and elongate it, but make sure the moved escutcheon won't overhang the sink edge profile.

I know this can be done easily, because I had to do it for the faucet in my Apron Sink Retrofit post here.

I just wrote an article on how fabricators can't make any money charging $150.00 to drill a faucet hole, but it hasn't come out yet. Take care of them if it wasn't their fault, please.

pattis: Thanks for the compliment. We wanted a warm color on our walls because our bathroom is on the north side of the house....very cold in the winter. Our 10 year old granddaughter spent the night this weekend and she only uses the master bathroom because we are in the midst of diy-ing the other bathroom. Anyway, I realized after she left that the sink was clean...There weren't any drops of hand soap on the sink or counter. With the previous soap dispenser, there was always soap in the sink after the grandkids used it.

Thanks for this thread. I have been looking for soap dispensers this whole week (after deciding on the Brizo Talo faucet) I've almost purchased 2 compatible Brizo dispensers a couple of different times until I came across mostly bad reviews on them. I was going to take my chances since I liked the style but then decided to look at the Elkay of Breeezy's and the Graff that was highly recommended on another thread. Too bad they were out of my price point.... I couldn't bear to spend that much on these accessories! My little update is budget! So, today I found 2 Kraus stainless dispensers on Amazon's warehouse deals (open packaging?) for the price of one. Spoke with Amazon, was assured that I had 30 days to decide if I liked to return and the Kraus warranty so I went for it. I think It resembles the Elkay. Granite, Check. Sink, Check. Faucet, check. Dispensers, check....It feels good to just make a decision so you can move on to the next! Off to the appliance forum!

Taggie: hahahaa. Yes, I think he would notice, because he would be the one installing them. Ã¢ÂÂswitch the top part in for the stainless one and not mention a word about it. Don't know how observant your DH is, but mine would never notice itÃ¢ÂÂ But you know, the water filter faucet is starting to leak a little (wink wink wink)Ã¢ÂÂ¦especially when I bang it w/ my big metal pan!!! Hahahaa Breezygirl: oh, IÃ¢ÂÂm way past year 2012 birthday and anniversary already. My 4 girlfriends and I are heading to South Beach for our birthday celebration next month. For our anniversary, I got my beloved Vitamix Blender (oh how romantic). Christmas 2013 present = IÃ¢ÂÂm getting the Blum Servo for the hands-free trash pullout. As for the handles: funny you mentioned it. Our friend came to help install them this morning. He didnÃ¢ÂÂt have enough time to do them all, but he strategically did not do any of the uppers so that he didnÃ¢ÂÂt have to fight me on installing them horizontally. Where do the soap dispenser, instant hot and disposal switch go?

It is personal preference! But, here's my setup: To determine which side to put the SD & GD air switch with a single bowl sink, first, decide which side to put the SD. (1) If you have a soap bottle now, which side is it on? Most likely that's the side you're more comfortable w/having the SD & that's the side to use. (2) If you don't have a soap bottle now or you're not sure you have the bottle on the correct side for you, then imagine yourself washing your hands (go through the motions at the sink to make it more real!). Which side do you naturally want to go to to pump the soap? That's the side to use. For us, we put our left hand under the dispenser to collect the soap and use our right hands to adjust water temp. For us, it worked out better to have the SD on the left...so we put the GD switch on the right...even though our GD is in the left, large bowl. Once you've decided which side to put the SD: If you only have the 3 (faucet, SD, air switch), I recommend putting the airswitch on the opposite side of the faucet from the SD. If you also have an instant hot water, filtered water tap, or other (like side spray), then put the GD on either side...it's so low-profile that it's location is not much of an issue. HTH!

Have you actually tried to use the soap dispenser? I was worried about whether my soap dispenser would work right, it has a short spout, but granite guy said they are made to shoot forward, so if I were you, I'd try it before I did anything drastic. If not, this one looks like it has a pretty far reach.

Simple utra-low cost fix (and doesn't even look bad) is to get a short piece of vinyl tubing like they sell for fishtanks and just friction fit it over the spout (or use a tiny bit of silicone) to extend it however long you need. Should solve the problem and looks pretty invisible.
