Countertops installed - need advice!
Comments (26)I think the sink looks great, it's always a bit of a shock when it isn't what you thought it would be (been there). In terms of appearance I like the look of backsplashes on enclosed cabinet runs where they end in the corners. There is nothing wrong with bringing it around but you now need more than standard tile or at least tile edging etc. which you hadn't planned on, I also think with such little wall surface having that wall just be paint is going to make it stand out. I don't know building\fire codes in your area but I'm surprised you need something fire rated on an external wall and I thought many kinds of ranges can be installed 0" from combustible wall surfaces (electric ones anyway). My Mom has very different materials than in your kitchen but one thing I am really happy with in my Mom's kitchen reno is deciding to use the BM Aura so we could use a flat sheen. You can also get tintable caulk (Red Devil) if you think paintable isn't going to work for you. You just tint it with your paint. For some stupid reason I'm thinking this might matter but I haven't found a store who carries it here yet. It really is looking great....See MoreIn the middle of painting, need some quick advice
Comments (3)I'll be painting Friday & Saturday and possibly early next week, depending on the snowy/cold weather and how much I get done this weekend. Granite guy is in Phoenix until next week and the granite I choose will depend on availability. (He gets orphan slabs and sells at cost plus his install & fabrication cost. It's the only way we could afford natural stone) The above (Ubatuba & G.Veneziano) were his suggestions that go with most cabinet colors/stains in our area and are usually available at the discount he's offering. With that said, I really need to paint before having sufficient time to choose the granite so all paint can dry & humidity eliminated before beech hardwood floors are installed. Plenty of light comes though a 12' bay windowed dining area. Kitchen faces the West....See MoreBlum drawer glides just installed--hate them!!
Comments (46)This thread is old, but I found it when googling custom cabinet BLUM drawer. FYI for anyone else wondering about this: All Blum Glides are ORANGE - it is actually the lock that is orange, not the glide itself. You CANNOT just install Blumotion bottom-mount soft-close glides onto any drawer box - the bottom / back of the box must be CUSTOM notched to fit the glide! EVERY SINGLE variety of glide on the market requires DIFFERENT notches to fit the glide! This includes different styles of Blum as well as the cheaper (of which that green glide is one) glides. Custom wood drawer boxes notched for Blum soft-close undermount Blumotion glides will cost AT LEAST $100 a piece - and that is for small, shallow drawers! The glides themselves are not very expensive, but unless you have a well-equipped woodwork shop do not even bother trying to DIY these! If you do decide to get custom Blum drawers, make sure the cabinet maker NORMALLY uses BLUM, and preferably ONLY Blum! I'm just trying to find 12" deep Blum drawers made of solid wood with 1/2" thick bottoms for a shallow dish cabinet, and having trouble finding 3 drawers for less than $400 - and I'll be building the actual cabinet to fit them! I'm almost considering buying Ikea, using the drawer as a template, ripping out the glides and making my own out of wood. For some reason the Ikea entire cabinet is less than just a drawer!...See Moreplease help w/ installed cabs:are these huge fillers necessary?
Comments (69)Thank you all for continuing to help me. I totally understand the clearances for 90 degree corners. But for 45 degree corners ... when I look at my peninsula angles I don't see how the doors could bump into each other any more than a straight run. Door hardware is knobs for the doors and typical cup pulls for drawers. However, those parts of the doors/drawers would never be near each other when opened at a 45 degree angle, unlike actual 90 degree corners. The KD does not seem to be very knowledgeable. When I questioned her during the design phase because it didn't make sense to me then either, she just said fillers are required on all corners on two sides and they can't be cut down because cabs come in 3" sizes. There was no distinction made between a 90 or 45 corner. At the very most it seems one 3" on one side would have been the most needed, such as gr8day (thx for the pic) and Shannonz's. Here is an example of one of the pics I found online w/no fillers it appears on 45 corners. It seems like this would work fine, unless I'm missing something here. Again, we paid a lot of money to these people and I feel like it lowers the aesthetic look of the cabinets, not to mention if I could have had 3" larger cabinets on one or both sides of the two 45 degree angles....See Moreamhers104
