We too are looking to remodel. When we "did" the kitchen 9 years ago we chose a Dacor 36" range (with oven below). We made the mistake of NOT putting in a wall oven. Last year we corrected that oversight by giving up our broom closet in favor of a 27" Bosch double wall oven. We LOVE it!! It has performed beautifully and not having to bend over to load and unload the oven is wonderful! So now we're going to sell the Dacor range and put in a "range top" with cabinet below. Not sure yet about brand. Dacor, Viking and Kitchen Aid are all in the running. I'm intrigued by the Electrolux Icon Series but NOBODY has them on display and I just can't buy something like that without seeing and touching the real thing. Anyone wish to comment on these brands? NOTE: These are slide in "range tops" and NOT drop in cook tops.

Posted this in Appliances Forum yesterday, but would love to hear any wisdom from here also - In the seemingly never-ending throes of kitchen remodel planning, have read (and re-read!) many threads on induction cooktops and electric wall ovens, but still trying to come up with a solution to our situation. Ideally, I'd like a 36" induction RANGE, but apparently no residential models in the USA - so we're hoping to install a 36" induction cooktop over a 30" electric wall oven. We'll have a second wall oven in another area of the kitchen, but for several reasons don't want to do a double oven or stack 2 singles. I'm strongly leaning toward the Miele KM5773BL cooktop (I know about cabinet width issues; we're doing custom cabs, so we can make sure the width will fit) and either the Electrolux Wave-Touch EW30EW55GS or ICON E30EW75GPS wall oven. The problem I just can't seem to find an answer to is whether the Miele cooktop can successfully be installed over either of those Elux ovens. I've read the specs & installation instructions; Miele just gives clearance required (4.5") between countertop & oven below - I haven't seen a list of "Miele-approved" ovens that can go below. But Electrolux DOES have a list of cooktops that can go above their ovens, and (as others have noted) they're all Elux appliances! So my questions are: 1) Does anyone out there have this combo installed? Would love to hear your comments/experience/issues, and (of course!) see photos. 2) In general, it would seem that this sort of installation would require a higher-than-normal countertop - 4.5" from floor for minimum oven height + cabinet to accomodate 27.25" minimum cutout + 4.5" clearance to top of counter for cooktop = at least 37", I think? I'm tall, so OK for me - but am I figuring this correctly? 3) Am I correct in believing that there could be warranty issues w/ an Elux oven if it was installed per their instructions but under a non-Elux cooktop? Has anyone had this happen? I really wish that either the Elux induction cooktops or the Miele wall ovens appealed to me as much as the others do! But the features of the Miele induction (timers for each hob, "stop and go" temporary power reduction, hob and control layout) look really good to me, and the Elux ovens seem to have so many satisfied users - at a more economical price than a Miele oven. Post this in the appliances forum and you'll get a TON of advice. BTW, why is he opposed to convection ovens? Generally they're considered more desirable than non-convection ovens. Is it just that he's never used one and doesn't want to change what he's used to? I wonder if reading up a bit more on them might change his mind. If you want to shop in addition to getting advice, go to AJ Madison, click on "Cooking" and then "Gas ranges," and then on the left-hand side, read down until you see "Convection" and then click "No." That will show you over 150 ranges, from cheeeeap to very expensive, that do not have convection. In higher-end ranges it is harder to find non-convection ovens--like I said, it's considered desirable by most. I'll put a link below but if it doesn't work, just follow the above instructions. If you need a 36" like the Praktfull, there are only 14 of them available; if you're interested in a 30", there are 101 of them (and of those 101, 20 of them have five burners like the Praktfull instead of four--but on a 30" range five burners is a bit crowded). 1)You should post this in the appliance forum. 2)Since you live in a NYC apartment I assume you can't vent directly outside? You need a recirculating hood? The grill will absolutely overwhelm the hood with smoke and grease and a recirculating hood can not expel heat. It will be like grilling in a cell inside a Chinese prison. 3) In your situation I would strongly consider induction. They require less powerful venting since they produce less excess heat and no combustion byproduct. Thermador offers the most powerful but you can't "bridge two burners" to set a grill/gridle plate on top. Wolf and Miele also make excellent induction cooktops. Any of these are more powefull than wolf gas cooktops/modules. As a bonus induction cooktops look very streamlined. Very minimalist Manhattan. If you want indoor grilling and adequate ventilation move out to Long Island or Westchester County LOL. Here is a link that might be useful: Appliance Forum
